Newcomer / Intro Interdicted 4 times in a row what gives???

I'm playing in Solo. So I went exploring in my Daimondback Explorer (no weapons by the way). And I got interdicted
4 times in the same system, by the same @#$*%& NPC. What the hell was this all about??????
I barely got away. Is this normal?

Yup, turn around & kill him, (defeat the interdiction (don't submit, fight instead) or complete the mission. NPC's like that are generally after you because of a mission, a bounty, or power play.

There's two types of ships that interdict you, those that do it once and then stop if you submit and reenter supercruise and those that'll keep doing it. Often the ones that keep doing it are either associated with missions or because you're wanted in another system and they're bounty hunting you. There's a few ways of getting rid of them though:

1. Jump into another system, they won't follow you into hyperspace.
2. Kill them. (Allow them to tag you first if both you and they aren't wanted in this system otherwise you'll get wanted if you strike first)
3. Beat them at the interdiction game (be sure that you can survive if you lose of course since this will put you at their mercy for longer if you don't win)

That is perfectly normal. When you entered the system the RNG decided that a pirate fancied having a go at you, therefore while you are in that system that NPC will keep trying to pirate you. By H-jumping into another system you reset the RNG and that pirate is no longer after you (of course another might be - all down to the RNG gods).

BTW The above is not true for mission-specific pirates (the ones you get mission updates for) - those will follow you until YOU destroy them (not security) or until you dock at your mission destination.

Thanks for the tips. I usually set my throttle to zero (never won any of these interdiction games). And then boost away, especially if I don't have any weapons on the ship.
But boy that was annoying, yes I do was on a mission so I guess that's why she came after me.

It is possible to get very good at the interdiction game. When I lose it (either as the interdictor or the interdictee) it's never against NPCs since I have pretty much a 100% record against them these days. I generally use a combination of hotas to do rolling and pitching but also the mouse to do the fine work of keeping on the target with yaw and pitch.

My favourite trick is getting them to sun dive, get real close to the sun, turn your to wards it and then wait. As they try to get behind you they will hit the sun and you rarely hear from them again. Clearly you can't do this unless you encounter them soon after jumping in though.

Funny you should mention this. An odd thing happened to me twice, came out of hyperspace, fuelscooped and an interdiction started and then stopped, strange.

If you are near a planet when an NPC is trying to line up behind you, it is possible to maneuver so that the NPC hits the planet. It's easier with rings.

To be honest it may be a good time to get good at the interdiction mini game.

I was reading the notes on 2.3 and it looks like pirate behaviour has been made more agggressive. They'll now open fire on you if you boost away to avoid their scans at just 1km if I understand correctly. This combined with the fact that the game is now much more stable (my god that galaxy map loads quick!) could be trouble for those who rely on the "submit &a'boost" tactic.

Wouldn't want to have a Clipper or FDL after me in 2.3.

FD should put up the interdiction mini game as one of the training videos, it's not that hard to beat and it's quicker than opting for submission.

If you're out in the black ship damage is the last thing you need, I've always played the mini game, unless it's a npc in something I know I can win...my understanding is that the AI has been balanced down slightly with this update...time will tell. I nearly got popped by an Asp Scout the other day...he stripped my buffed shields in seconds..I don't know what he was throwing at me, I didn't hang around to find out...I was in my engineered Clipper and ran like a puppy :D

I just lost my ship, tried to run but he got me in 123...no fun in that, so now everybody is going to have weapons and fight and STILL loose (credits & time) ?? What's the point, only a time eating thing that i dont want to play. I have a metal plate in my wrest and just can't do all these maneuvers all the time.
I had the same thing on ATS (truck sim game) where they made the runs soooo boringly long that it is not funny anymore to play it.
Btw, what is "interdiction mini game" ?

Thanks cmdr's keep on going !

When you get interdicted, do not throttle down, just try to keep up with the circle until you win or it looks like you will lose.

been like this for quite some time now.. can be a real pia depending on what ship ur in... be sure to quickly find and pick a system to jump to just in case u have to

If you pick and properly outfit your ship then you will be able to run from almost anything without taking hull damage. It takes practice and a bit of knowledge but can be done, chin up...

Yes they do that now. As soon as you boost they open fire. Hopefully no instant-murder-death-kill weapons though.

Are they harder in cargo ships? I've never managed to fail an interdiction against NPCs, but then, I'm not flying a Type 9.

I had a mission NPC follow my Type-7 through six systems (and three cargo deliveries, to boot!) last night, and I had no difficulties evading interdiction. He even followed me into the no-fire zone of the mission starport, at which point the neighborly SAVs kindly asked him to stop.

Had about 20 so far in my Type 6, the first against against a CMDR in an FDL (who lost). It used to be the case that interdictions were near impossible to evade in all but the smallest ships.

I guess that isn't the case just now.
