Interdicted

Is it just me, or are the NPCs a little more persistent lately? I'm not really complaining, because it makes it more interesting, but I was interdicted 4 times in the span of 30 light seconds by the same NPC, and he even started firing the moment I started moving. Fortunately, he only managed to take about 1/3 of my shields before I lit on out, but he kept coming back. I've had this happen several times. When I first started playing a little over a month ago, interdictions usually happened once, twice maybe, during a system run averaging about 5,000-50,000 light seconds. Lately, though, every interdiction happens multiple times, and in just a handful of light seconds, too.

I do wish they would change up the demands, though. It was a passenger run, and I also had 4t of articulation motors, and he was demanding 10t of cargo. I couldn't have met that demand anyway, not that I would have.

So, anyone else seeing repeated interdictions by the same NPC taking place one right after the other? I mean, there's barely any time to get up to speed, and the interdiction happens again. I've never seen that behavior before.

Just another day for me. :(

I dunno.

A year or so ago (when I first started playing ED "properly"), I got hounded by an NPC for 200Ly.
More recently, after 2.3, I found myself with a substantial bounty and I was constantly getting harassed by bounty-hunting NPCs.

As a rule, these days, any NPC that interdicts me just explodes soon afterwards so I don't spend too much time thinking about it.
Mostly, I'm just wondering if I'm going to have to go out of my way to cash in the bounty.

Some are quite persistent, there are three ways around the problem.

1. High wake to another nearby system, then return.
2. Evade interdiction with the mini game ( only works if your ship is more manoeuvrable that the interdictor
3. Stealthie's solution - my preferred option with my python/anaconda. Strange now they always say " give me x credits of cargo and this will all go away" just as their shields collapse. Maybe if they were "here's x credits of cargo, please go away" it would work better...

Solution:

Engineer your ship to g3 or more, shields, weapons, FSD, the works. Scan the threads or ask for help in outfitting.

Next interdiction, kill all NPC's. And keep killing them for the time you will play ED, if you play for a while, you will kill them by the thousands. When you get the skills and ship(s) to higher levels, NPC's are just a source of CR.

I had 2 NPCs attempting to interdict one of my weaponless alts at the same time. It was a tad more difficult to beat the interdiction, but still rather easy overall. Instead of submitting and boosting, you can rid yourself of them by winning the interdiction in the first place. If it's a mission related NPC that's after you, he'll come back after the short cooldown, so you might need to beat him again.

The frequency often comes down to what you are carrying in your cargo hold. Engineer materials attract pirates like flies as do certain rare commodities. Also passenger missions will often indicate that a passenger is likely to be pursued by enemies/rival faction etc.

My alternative to #1 is to drop out of SC when I get the Comms from the dirty pirate. Sometimes they drop in on me, mostly if I don't go back to SC as soon as my FSD has recharged. I love it when the countdown is just starting and they pop in. The gist of this is the same as high waking: you roll the dice again to see if the pirate spawns. Don't need to go to another system to trigger that.

You and me both. Let me buy you a beer at the next station.

Ooh, I want mine to explode so badly. Unfortunately, as a passenger ship, my AspX doesn't have the power to really make anything above "wandered into this area by mistake with shields down" explode.

High waking is an idea. Right now I've just been keeping my engines at 4 pips and boosting. It's enough to get away, but yeah, they come right back. You know, there was one incident where I DID manage to make them explode. They were listed as "mostly harmless" and I managed to blast them to pieces. Right up until they were on fire and spinning out of control, though, it was "if you just give me 10,000 credits, this can all end."

My eventual goal is an Anaconda, but for now I'm still in an AspX which has to fight really hard not to blow itself up overheating. I need that AspX, though, because it's good for cargo and passengers.

I usually win the interdictions, but I get irritated when they do it about 2.00Mm from my destination. That's when I usually just submit and then boost out. That, or I don't have the time to play the mini-game, which can be frustrating if they're more maneuverable.

In this case, the passenger wasn't wanted or high value, but I guess they needed those 4t articulation motors. Why don't they go to Walmart like everyone else?! ;)

Is it really that hard to beat the interdiction mini-game with some ships? i'm flying a Type 6 on PS4 and get interdicted maybe every 4th or so run, and I've yet to lose the mini-game to an NPC. I know people recommend submitting then boosting away until FSD is available (not that my Type 6 can boost all that well).

It's highly likely the articulation motors. They are absolute NPC interdiction bait, along with any other engineer cargo rewards.

Then, because you low waked out, the NPC could follow you and try again. It's been this way for a while now, if you win the interdiction then you lose the NPC, likewise if you high wake, they won't follow you, or if you submit and destroy them, but if you submit and low wake they will just keep trying.

The same will go for mission spawned NPCs, and you multiply your chances of being interdicted by having missions and engineer commodities as both are potential triggers for interdictions.

Not so much. It's just time consuming, and since I get motion sickness, just a bit, it's a little disconcerting. So I drop out of SC, and then boost as fast as possible. Usually works.

"constant interdicted" ... complain? Well that's a game mechanic isnt it? I dont get these cmdrs... rly

From original post:
"I'm not really complaining, because it makes it more interesting,"

Reading is fundamental. I don't get these cmdrs, rly. ;)

Ah, I see. Well I guess I can put up with the slippy slidy mini-game if that means not getting interdicted before I can take my next breath. lol
Thanks for the tip! :)

Yes, they are more persistent now.

I always submit, because the submitted get the FSD back faster than the interdictor. I'll fight the target if I think I have a chance, otherwise its pips to engines and boost boost boost then highwake out of Dodge.

If I'm in a trader I will pepper my wake with mines just to give them something to remember me by.

Yes. They follow me to the station and jump in right near the station. Then they just linger around whistling and looking away like they aren't even interested in me, until the feds come around at which time they deploy hard points and the fighting starts. Since I am in an anaconda at the time, I just stick with him so he cannot jump, but I have no idea if NPCs can be mass locked.

Mines used to be a 100% surefire way of blowing up a pursuing pirate, they just kept flying into them until they exploded. Then the AI got smarter, pirates swerve around mines now. But that swerving still gives you extra time to fly away.

They work even better if you are head on and reverse thrusting. Then you can see them being lobbed at your target. Cmdr 3 of 7 posted a great video of that

That's what one of them did last night. I finally arrived at the station, and right behind me was the *pop**bang* of another ship coming out of SC. He tried to pursue me all the way up to the mail slot, firing his weapons, until he entered the no fire zone and the station went 'lol no' and ended his pirating days. Can't say I shed a tear.

Anything to keep them occupied and slower than me! :D

That was INSANE! That pilot has serious skill and excellent tactical ability.

Nope, you can fight AI in a type-9 and win, no problem. The AI, are essentially window dressing at this point, and just as lethal.
