Interesting (and new?) Fleet Carrier pictures

More like superstructure at the back, here's another view

Tsk tsk frontier. These look like they would be the worst match for arx ship skins. Really one of these in vibrant yellow?

Still waiting for ignition red set for all ships.

The support ship is the front of the ship. It's the giant thing in front of the front pad. It starts just below those ramps. That part is the engine. The back thing on the top is the bridge for the rear part of the carrier.

I think there were pictures at one point with it seperated. That is the part you can change to one of the other front vehicles. They had pics of the exploration one on the front also. In place of that one. That is the default one if i'm not mistaken.

I dunno about that.

The pictures we saw last year certainly did seem to suggest that the front of the FC looked identical to the front of at least one type of support-ship and it was suggested that the support-ship undocks from the front of the FC but the support-ships have their own large, sticky-outy, bits too, which would require an awful lot of Transformers-style reconfiguring after the support-ship undocked.

Here's a pic of an FC.
latest

And here's a pic' of a support-ship with the same nose.
latest

The nose appears to be identical and the rectangular and cylindrical modules behind the nose are similar too.
But then there's sticky-outy bits on the top and bottom as well as the wings and fin.
The top sticky-outy bit (a bridge?) looks as though it might, plausibly, retract but it doesn't look like the wings/fin can retract or fit inside the hull of the FC.

And don't forget, that's just one type (mercenary) of support-ship.
We've also seen a mining support-ship and an exploration support-ship which look like they'd have a MUCH harder time docking with an FC than the merc' support-ship.

If FDev have set it up so the support-ships dock with the FC I'll be impressed but I dunno if that might be hoping for too much.

Hopefully, they've abandoned that support ship concept in favor of the internal modules to adapt the role of the FC. It would make more sense that way, and be a much tidier way to design the ships.

I wouldn't mind both. It's an option visually at least.

Dunno if it's just a coincidence but, looking at previous pictures of FCs, it seems like they almost all show the top of the FC.
Is that just 'cos FDev figured the top of the FC was it's "best side" or might it have been a deliberate way of hiding that substructure because it's something cool?

There are a couple of old pictures which appear to have the substructure, though, so it would appear it isn't a new addition to an FC's design.

This pic' seems to show something poking out from underneath the belly of the FC:

As does this one:

Much nicer than most megaships.

Having said that, I really don't get the purpose, exploration aside.

I have 5 ships all built or loaded out and engineered for specific purposes. I am a member of the AEDC and subsequently do a lot of missions for them. I never know just what ship I would need to utilize when I get to a system that needs to be worked. Thus having a FC will be great, I can move my FC, enter a station, figure out which ship I should utilize, go to my FC and switch ships to something more conducive. Rather than fly to a system, and realize I don't have the best ship and have to fly back to switch out as I do presently.

Sadly it's probably just a planet killer sized radio antenae. Maybe you can melt brains with it somehow.

The idea of some ships being planetary and some not could be interesting.
