General / Off-Topic Interesting blunder in the Netherlands

Dutch police department ordered Microsoft licenses at the value of 3m by accident. Once they realised they asked for the money back, but MS refused. It became a legal case, and eventually MS won yesterday. The fun part is that this is the second time this happened: last time they gave the money back and said they wouldn't do so again if we were stupid enough to make the same blunder twice.

And here we are. :p

Hilarious. What else can I say !

Flimley

I think in these dark days the world needs a global TV series about Dutch court cases. Two favourites of mine:

1) A local farmer in Groningen filed his tax returns, and included profits gained by illegally growing pot. He paid taxes on the incomes of his employees, provided healthcare, paid for the machinery and electricity etc. Dutch IRS passed it on to legal, who sued the farmer. Judge ruled that Dutch pot laws are so bizarre (coffee shop can sell pot but not buy it or own any reasonable quantity etc), and the man did all the right things morally, that police should just get lost. :D

2) Police arrested a man in Brabant for having his entire garden filled with cannabis plants. They ripped them all out and burned it, and gave the man a fine. The man pressed charges against the police. Judge ruled that the man was correct: we are legally allowed to own five plants, and there is no legal limit to the size of the plants. Outdoors these plants can get humongeous. Police was ordered to refund the man for the street value of the pot. :D

That's epic. I feel a sudden urge to move to the Netherlands.

There are a few weird instances involving the courts that I have read about. But these take the cake.

We are cultural cousins anyway. Finns and the Dutch, the only people who like salmiakki (salty licorise for the rest of you).

My favorite thing to do is eat Dubbel Zout in front of people... and of course it doesn't phase me at all. In fact I tend to crave them everyday. So of course people ask if they can "try one" and then I watch their faces screw up in horror. Its fantastic fun.

Sure opens one's respiratory tracts! :D
Have to be careful with the stuff though, pea-sized chunk for full mouthful of fish & rice is enough for me.
I love wasabi seasoned peanuts & chips (chrisps for the Brits) though.

I am amazed ! Why the judge did not order to the police to put new plants ?

Where I live in the north of Holland they grow a cash crop - Hemp - for rope making.

One day I noticed what was growing in the field I was driving past, and almost crashed :)
