Problem is when I get there and try to drive in with my SRV I trespass and get shot at and killed! God Dammit!

Ok so what am I missing. I'm noob when it comes to SRV stuff.

Well, that's more or less how it works. :D
Except the being killed part, of course.

What you can do (especially in those big bases) is to scout from the top, first. You have a couple of seconds leeway in activating the defenses, so you can do some passes and look for the generator(s). They are relatively and orange, so they aren't hard to spot, once you've seen one. If you destroy them (you have to bring dumbfire missiles or some high-impact weapon) you will turn off all the gates, energy fields and turrets.
While in the air, you can also search for the Arrays so you can find them more easily and quickly in SRV.

Then, unless there is a Goliath (which is trouble), it's just you against skimmers and several small turrets, usually.

Try to conquer a couple of bases "just so" - for training purposes. You'll gain some feel for how there are built and what's where.
