The carnivores in the game needs to have their own unique need to hunt. When the game first released, it was fun to have these dinosaurs in the game as they would be some of the most powerful creatures in the park. But without storms or scripted missions, these dinosaurs would remain in any enclosure of any security as long as their environment needs are met. So they feel like any other dinosaur after some time of play. And I wish to feel intimidated by having them in my parks, like I want to hesitate before bringing in the indominus rex. I did in my first time as I was scared on the amount of destruction she could bring to my park if I am not careful, but now she is like my aggressive pet cat, she just hates getting wet.
I think we should have the carnivores get a hunt need. A need that is similar to hunger and thirst but exclusive to carnivores (herbivores could get it but it will be fully blue like the wetland need). We could feed our carnivores meat, but the T-rex and similarly dangerous carnivores would prefer to hunt for their meals. If they do not kill something every now and then, they will have their hunt need lowered, and when the hunt need is in the red: their comfort need decreases as well.
Each carnivore would be more unique depending on their hunt threshold and the rate the need to hunt grows. This will add to the dangers of owning certain carnivores over others besides their stats. Beginning carnivores like the ceratosaurus and proceratosaurus and baryonyx could be some of the most chilled of carnivores, some not even wanting to hunt. Whereas the T-rex, spinosaurus, and giganotosaurus are more inclined to hunt for their meals. To which the indoraptor and indominus rex are the hardest to keep their hunt need in check as they would have the briefest time of satisfaction before they want to hunt again.
To satisfy their need to hunt we need to provide these carnivores something to kill. And here is what I think would be awesome: Introduce favored prey.
So if I were to have a T-rex in an enclosure, she could be satisfied with a gallimimus, in fact it will have her need paused for a notable time beccause she killed a dinosaur. However, she really likes the taste of ceratopsids and hadrosaurs, and if she were to kill a dinosaur from either family, she would have her hunt need paused with great satisfaction for a greater period of time. Allowing you to continue with your park for a great period of time before she would like to hunt again.
Of course, dinosaurs are pricey and would cost to keep a carnivore in a great satisfaction moment. To which we could introduce them to farm animals. Not just goats but pigs and cows. Each one allowing for a different need:
• Goat: The goat would be a standard for all carnivores, it will provide good satisfaction to the carnivores and keep them occupied.
• Pigs: Pigs are cheaper than goats, and are a favorite to small carnivores. However, because of their small size, timid nature, and their speed, larger carnivores would not be able to hunt them as they would want to hunt a creature that is easier to catch with more meat. A small carnivore would enjoy the kill, but there will not be as much meat to share with other carnivores like goats would provide.
• Cows: Cows are the most expensive option to feed your carnivores with. However they would satisfy all carnivores greatly because of the rush of taking down large prey. They would also bonus as a small feeder once killed, so large carnivores would not swallow them whole, but share their kill with other members.
So in the tier of satisfaction, this is how it could be seen:
1) Pigs to some large carnivores (that would even see it as a prey option)
2) Goats to all carnivores
3) Pigs to small carnivores
4) Cows to all carnivores
5) Dinosaurs that could be hunted
6) Favorite Prey
This satisfaction would be beneficial to not just the carnivore that killed but the pack mates of the hunter. A velociraptor that has killed a pig, goat, or cow, would share the satisfaction of the kill with her packmates. They would be like wild dogs in the sense that not all of them has killed the prey, but they all are satisfied with the success of the hunt and could share the kill.
A T-rex would be satisfied with a goat as she is a solo predator. However, a goat could only satisfy a single giganotosaurus of a pack as the goat is swallowed whole, so a cow or dinosaur would satisfy the need of the large pack members.
This is what I had in mind at least when it comes to carnivores. We could have the herbivores be satisfied with paleobotany, so the carnivores should be satisfied with selected prey items. And on a final note: A carnivore that has been hungry for a while, should break out of the exhibit. It is odd that carnivores would starve to death in their enclosure as guests walk by, but would break out if there were a lack of trees. These dinosaurs are predators, and should have players hesitate in selecting them if they do not know what they are doing. Plus, it will add a layer of management to make sure these carnivores are satisfied, and much more rewarding to keep them in their enclosures for so long without having them break out due to a lack of hunting.
