Ironman mode??

The devs would need to add a Private Group like mobius but that has the rebuy option removed, and which is shown on the start menu.
With no crossover.
Thats way too complicated for a game developer to do.

And yet ARPGs like Diablo or PoE are able to do it just fine. Heck, PoE even features races, short term hardcore leagues where players race to get as high a level as possible, even custom races with special rules and game worlds...

But then again you may be right about it being complicated, FDEV tried to assimilate the RNG crafting systems usually found in ARPGs, and ended up with a spinny wheel engineers...

It was pure sarcasm

Emotions, which are normally conveyed by body gestures and movement, tone of voice, etc .. are kind of lost when using a keyboard.

Unless you say in your post you're being sarcastic a lot of people (myself included) take you literally.

I miss the promise of iron man mode. It would have been glorious.

It would have been to all intents and purposes solo mode with a tiny-tiny chance of meeting other CMDRs, and instead of self-chosing to ironman it would be enforced.

In short, nothing you can't do yourself.

Unless you really believe there would be more than a few dozen players choosing to ironman in some sort of pre-definied ironman mode.

And of course, you would have the trolls who would have second accounts and go into ironman with the sole intention of blowing up players.

From the title I thought this was a resurrected thread.

Anyway, if I had a second commander (mmm, PS4 perhaps?), I'd play in ironman mode. :)

We know all of this and yet Yes, we would still like IronMan for a second cmdr :)
With easy access to multiple Cmdr accounts (not how it is now) and then a dedicated IronMan - I think more than a few dozen would play it.
And if not its basically a Private Group with Entry flags and No Rebuy.
No massive use of resources and I am sure more than a few would be happy if multi Cmdr packs went onto the store.

As players block by CMDR name, I would hope that a character reset and name change not undermine that process and allow that player to grief the blocking CMDR again.

Ironman is a personal choice...on both platforms. The mechanics of how it works is exactly the same regardless what platform yer on...as in yer not locked to any mode at all unless through self imposed choice ^

The challenge is simple...one life only, ye die, ye wake up in a sidewinder with 1k credits. Self imposed, play your own way taken very literally ^
Ooooo. You missed one. You might want to edit the highlighted text to a more traditional "yer".

I guess i dont get it. If ye want ironman, u can choose it. Unless the purpose is everyone ironman...?
Playing since launch, starting over might be fun but not at the cost of all my progress. Seems ludiculous but to each their own heh

CMDR Ascorbius began his own "Ironman" gameplay. Only in open and no 3rd party tools. He is currently in Day 4.

I don't see the appeal.
By all means, do whatever you like with your save data.
I happen to like mine, and I'll be keeping it just as it is.

Games play very differently when one bad decision can while out months, or even years, of effort in an instant. Just like some people thrive on PvP, some people enjoy putting it all on the line. I've very much enjoyed "Ultra Hardcore Mode" (aka iron man with no health regen) in Minecraft, despite only completing two of the worlds I'd created.

I would prefer an iron man mode for Elite: Dangerous myself, so that I'm playing with like minded players. I would't mind getting permantly killed by a player-killer if they're facing the same risk I am. But without an actual mode, and wanting to play in open, I'm not about to go full iron man when the player killers get a slap on the wrist when killed.

As a compromise, I'm using mossfoot's Pilot Ejection Table. I'm seriously considering retiring Commander Stevenson and starting a second Commander. She's seen 14 rebuys (mostly from Buckyball Racing) and has had seven ships shot out[SUB]1[/SUB] from under her to date. Unfortunately, the last couple releases has left me wary of buying a second account, and I'd prefer to keep her and her stable of ships for racing purposes.

1 My explanation for the "insurance loophole" event, as well as why we get the EXACT same ship, complete with mods, at rebuy is that our actual ships are recovered and repaired.

Like I said, I do understand this appeals to some people.
So does high-stakes gambling in Vegas.
It just doesn't appeal to me. No Man's Sky has their own version of this called, aptly enough, Permadeath mode. I'll never use it though.

Its sorta the same with single player campaigns...ye complete it or lap it, then stick it on insane mode or whatever is the hardest and really get to work exploring every possible secret and corner there is. Ye faff a mission, just restart the whole level and do it right from the start, building on yer experience by not making the same mistakes twice.

Online play however is sketchy when it comes to human nature...if yer in open then there are those who would take extra pleasure from killing someone in ironman...its like hunting a trophy because the stakes are so much higher. Advertize what yer doing at yer own risk.

Personally, Ive never owned more than 30 to 35m in total assets, and Ive never owned anything bigger than an asp explorer. Never used an engineer and never will but thats another story not relevant to others. Ive known a couple guys who made triple elite on one life...best Ive done is elite exploration and Ive sorta stalled in the past couple months and been playing other stuff.

I treat this as a single player game with other players...means I get to make my own choices and my own mistakes and everytime I break one of my personal rules, I die and wipe. There could be so little risk if one desired...one could be an unkillable pvp legend or a pve wrecking ball but I find both of those options extremely boring and unimaginative. So I play the game somewhat differently than others...my way not the way others want me to.

I have a very contrary nature...and issues with authority ^

Oh an I promised my daughter never to play cards again after a little 'incident' in an unnamed location in belfast...lost the car that night haha story of my life ^

As with lots of things on this game, you are expected to make your own decisions.
If you think regular game and it's challenges a bit easy, try starting from scratch and if you trash it , YOU decide to reset the game back to start.
I bought a second version of game to try this. It is however not getting much play as I am working to rank my main persona. And it's hard enough for me in normal mode. 😏
