Is anybody else easily distracted?

So, I'm plodding around right now in my nominal circumnavigation, but I find I'll travel some, but then get distracted and spend hours doing random stuff. For example, I was going to finish my current plotted course today, and maybe get through a couple more 1kly plots in. But I saw a pair of potato moons co-orbiting each other really close to a gas giant. Soooo then I spent the next 2 hours flying from one to the other in real space.

Aaand since I landed on one, for my next playing session, I'm seriously considering driving all the way around it. Just because.

Is this anybody else's "exploration" experience?

I must be doing it wrong:

Actually, my 'straight line' routes are often less straight seen edge on, as I move up and down depending on star density: I like to move away from the galactic plane when I can.

I usually travel in fairly straight lines... but I really prefer not to go through already-tagged systems, so I tend to make detours. On my way home from Sag A*, I diverted maybe 300 Ly east and 2800 Ly down after just two tagged systems in a row, and for the current trip I'm on, instead of a beeline for the core, I went a bit east, and am now headed to Greae Phoea AA-A H41 nebula before doglegging back west to where my tourist wants to go.

Part of it may be that I don't tend to look at the galaxy map very often, and I don't generally try to set my filters to look for interesting stars, just taking them as they come on my way.

I miss the green suns...they existed in some earlier version of 2.x but then had their colour changed to blue. I love blue suns too but not as nice as green.

Regardless to what some might say, distraction is healthy IMO :D

Just flying from one way point to another without any de-tour is just watching jump sequence over and over again and that gets old quite quickly.

With that said, i get distracted easily and every time I do, I have great fun.

Realistic galactic map mode is quite good way for you to get distracted, I cannot belive I didn't use it all that much before, but then again, this is my first long exploration run.

I've done many exploration trips and I am in a long-term one now but I've have yet to find some use for the realistic galactic map mode. I use the galactic map, it's my main tool for navigating sparse areas and the "normal" boring mode provides me with all the information I need. How do you use it in realistic mode?

Put it into realistic mode, zoom out "a smidge" and move about (works far better in a semi-dense area). Giants are hugely obvious (pun intended, I guess). Sure, you can filter carbon stars or Wolf-Rayets out themselves - but M/K/F and the occasional A are much harder to find without using realistic mode. Giant Ms are pretty abundant but your chances of running into one by just filtering to Ms is... small.
SHINIES!!

^^This.

I like giant stars and now am in quest of finding un-tagged super/giant class G and F. I have claimed my first A supergiant with 400+k SOL radius recently :)

Heh, shinies indeed. :D

Thank you! I'll try that next time I'm online.
