is anyone gaming in a shiny new RTX 20XX card in VR today?

I'm just waiting for some RTX2080ti HTC Vive Elite Dangerous footage on YouTube. Anyone here have that combination of kit set up yet?

neat, thanks. well, that's not really much, but always better than a no! :D

No not much, just a yes it's going to happen. To be honest I still find the CV1 at least adequate, at best a wonderful experience and forget it's shortcomings. The only problem I have is I just cannot wear it for longer than an hour because it get's too uncomfortable against my face. Hoping the CV1 changes that aspect.

yeah. i just take breaks when i feel like in a session. often just to plan ahead and dig around web:dangerous, or just stretch or do random stuff. i also don't play every day, i've discovered i enjoy elite best taking small sips.

So.......yeah.........a vive pro and a 2080 Ti is a pretty awesome combo for elite.

Havent really gotten into all the possible settings or testing but with most things set mid to high ish with 1.25 supersampling i can mostly maintain 90 fps AT STATIONS!

Obviously i have to turn some stuff down to keep the asw or arp or whatever its called from kicking in at stations but the fact that i can actually maintain 90 with moderate settings and a 1.25 supersample is impressive.

Will mess with it more later. I have a bunch of other vr games to revisit. I kinda quit vr cause it was so FUGLY. Now im getting back in full swing lol

What cpu are you guys running. I am 8600k at 4.8 and 1080ti. When I upgraded to the 1080ti from 580 the improvement was obviously very good. But I also found a similar improvement when I upgraded cpu. What I am saying is VR is just really intensive across the board in ED so adding a 2080ti wouldn't necessarily get way better results anyway. I agree with a previous post FD need to optimise more for VR really to see increases in performance. It's definitely slower in open.
Personally I will definitely be waiting for another generation so mid 2020 and the pimax 10k😂

I found the default head pad really horrible to wear so i invested in a new face pad from VR Cove (https://vrcover.com/ ), but Amazon do these now, also Rift themselves, so lots of choice now. Not that expensive and a whole heap more comfortable than the one that came with the Rift.

Massive improvement going from the i7-7700HQ in my laptop to the 8700k in my desktop build. Ram capacity was kept the same. Same video card, just not in an external enclosure anymore. I was hitting 100% cpu utilization in the laptop with low GPU utilization and getting pretty horrible stuttering. In the desktop, I'm around 40% CPU and average 70-90% utilization of the GPU now with almost no stuttering. Still optimizing graphics settings.

my 1080ti is now in the post, should arrive tomorrow.
I must admit i am a bit dissapointed i am not going for a 2080ti but imo this just isnt the generation for me to go big on. With hindsite i wish i had got the 1080ti 12 months back but hey ho.

my only dilemma is should i have paid the extra £120 for the vanilla 2080. its nip/tuck the same speed in old games as the 1080ti but going forward i think will edge out the 1080ti card.

if DLSS and rtx take off of course it will smash it into the ground.... it was a tough call for me that one.

hopefully in 18 months - 2 years i can re-evaluate.

I'm currently facing the same dilemma, but I think I'll opt for the RTX 2080. I'm upgrading from a lowly GTX 1060 6GB  (intended as a stop-gap until I could afford a 1080ti, and then the crypto-mining thing happened), so either way it'll be a vast improvement.

I just can't justify spending £1000+ on a GPU, so the 2080ti is out.

I bought a new pc a month ago, specifically for vr and ED first and foremost. Had been gaming on ps for the last couple of years.
So got a 2080 to go with my oc i7 8700k and 32g ram.
I still haven't figured out why I'm getting 45fps near stations, asw kicking in and 90 fps outside even tho the gpu is only 60-70% in use.
But besides the AA issues ED looks absolutely amazing in VR. Beautiful indeed.
My last gpu was a 960 so 2080 performs very good. And it was 150£ more than 1080ti

congrats to your new rig.
There are many threads about FPS in VR and what settings to try etc. I used to tinker around alot as well. Running a 980 then 1080 and now 1080Ti. Fact is, ED is not well optimized for VR and is no problem to choke a 2080TI in ED VR. And for every little bit of visual improvement in the game you need exponentially more horsepower on the GPU.

Yes I've noticed that ED has issues with VR, still trying out different settings, but I'm loving the immersion especially with a hotas. Too bad you can't type in vr.
