Is anyone having issues with Shadows?

So since I have been back I seem to be having an issue with Shadows in game. Really bad popping of shadows, flicking in and out and a really really low and noticeable shadow distance.
I am running in Ultra with Ultra+ Textures and 1.25x Supersampling.

I have been messing about with settings but I can't seem to change it. This definitely seems to be a recent thing.

Can anyone help?

Yes. So have friends who stream, so it's not just my setup. Often with the shadow of my landed ship seen from outside on foot; and also darkness on the landscape near the terminator of day/night on planets.

I've changed directional shadows down from Ultra to Medium, which has helped with a lot of them (reduced popping) but not all. Spot shadows remain at Ultra as that setting doesn't seem to make any difference to the problem.

My grandma had those tracing paper type toilet roles. I seemed to remember them back in the 80s and I just don't know why those where preferred over wet wipes or the softer tissue.

Also an example of my issue

Haha, yeah there are times I do wish I stuck with Nvidia. But I really like this card though. I don't know if it is hardware related.

What's this gpuworktable.xml?

Oh I have tried Windowed, Full Screen. Different resolutions. Different Graphics Settings.

Dropping Directional Shadows to Medium does help, but its a stop gap as it looks a little phooey at distance. It's definitely Elite based, but im about as technical as a cat.

It’s a problem with the game as Acknowledged by FDev in the issue report - which is currently the highest voted issue on the tracker.

VR has had the same problem since 2022 and no amount of driver versions / worktable deletions / settings changes etc. help, so I’d say save yourself the hassle and wait for a fix (though you may be waiting for a long time, of course…😁).

I distinctly recall an option to switch off shadows in the menu options, long ago. If only this was still available as shadows are quite off putting currently.

Flimley
