Is ANYONE playing CQC on PS4?!?

Guess it will be as good a place as any to practice my combat v other players...and with no rebuy costs it will be a lot cheaper as well.

Meh... There's three reasons this just doesn't work for me:

1) A huge part of my combat strategy revolves around the build of my ship. I've unlocked a few of the ships in CQC, and none of them come close to what I fly IRG (in the real game).

2) There are no claustrophobic junkyards IRG, and I'm thankful for that. Even the rings have way more "space" than rocks / ice. Most of the evasive maneuvers I use IRG are negated by all the crap I bounce off of in CQC.

3) CQC really depends on teamwork. I was in one game where we all flew together kinda like a wing, and it was great. I was in another game where my team was all scattered and the enemy was organized, and I was toast. To make matters worse, some "killa" gangster is heavy breathing into his mic with baby screaming in the background, and I have no idea how to mute him. These are people I would never wing up with IRG.

I said it before, and I'll say it again - I think CQC sucks. I can see many of you like it, and that's cool. Personally I'd rather they offer us a "simulator" mode, where we could pit our real ships against each other in IRG environments and fight to test our builds and tactics without risking our actual ships.

I've never been able to get a match no matter how long I wait , real shame because I was looking forward to trying it , it would be great when you want to play but don't have much time . Perhaps the Devs should advertise the players ranks in full games stations and maybe a radio Chanel to encourage people who want their names in lights for all to see .

I've spent a number of hours in CQC, mostly in a party.

When it works, CQC is great. It feels nicely balanced, mostly lag free, with maps that are straightforward to learn and offer plenty of strategy options. My very first experience however, was watching a matchmaking screen with numerous disconnects for around about... an hour. If I didn't have the patience of a saint, I may have missed out on the CQC experience altogether.

Clearly, Frontier aren't giving enough server time to CQC. It's all a bit broken. I'm not surprised that many CMDRs simply give up on waiting for a match to begin and then never go back to CQC again. Not to mention the likelihood of being thrown into your first match with players of a much higher level. Matchmaking it isn't!

Yeh, its biggest issue is the matchmaking which seems very poor at the best of times. Still at rank 40 now (and only halfway to 50!) so a bit more grind left yet.

I've spent the last 3 days trying to get through the matchmaking (each game type and various times of day) to an actual game to no avail. Really frustrating as I want to give it a go as I'm aiming for a Platinum trophy.

With how it stands at the moment I really wish Frontier would consider removing CQC related trophies from game, as through no fault of my own, they appear doomed.

What timezone are you fallingbrick and what's your PSN Id? We have a group on PSN who are actively going for these trophies. If you drop your PSN id here I will add you to the message group on the PlayStation.

The CQC trophies should have been separate from the main set, and the platinum requirement.
Frontier must have known from the numbers on the other systems it wouldn't have enough players for the trophies to be a reasonable expectation; the only reason I can think for them being there is if they are also achievements on XBOne, and they thought it should be the same on PS4.

I don't know what they could do to save it really, it's pretty obvious the majority of players just aren't interested in being in an arena playing ED when they could be out in the galaxy exploring, making credits, gaining ranks, etc.

They did reduce the win count vs. the Xbox, probably for this reason. Only 25 wins required vs. 250. Plus 10 wins per game type. The real grind is the rank 50 trophy. Some people already have it. I agree its a bit of a ball ache.

There have been lots of good suggestions to encourage people to play in CQC.

1. Matchmaking from the main game, so that people can carry on playing Elite rather than staring at a matchmaking screen.

2. Improve rewards, either give credits worth having, give some form of Federation/Empire rep, or basically anything useful in the main game to encourage play. (I have played CQC for nearly 2 days according to the stats and made like 400k which is to be honest pitiful).

3. Add AI bots.

Its a bit of self perpetuating decline, because its got issues, people don't play and because people don't play FDev don't invest anytime improving it.

I'm based in Ireland, so we should be good. I have thought getting into a group would be the only way to progress this.

Cheers!

I think the challenge is that you have a choice.

Pew pew in CQC and earn a couple hundred credits and no progression.

Pew pew or haul, or explore, or pirate, or engineer, or scan, or investigate, or race, or search and earn up to millions of credits and rank progression.

Guess which one I chose?

Why i will waste my time shooting players for nothing since i can kill npcs for millions of credits, mats, rep and inf?

Does anyone like CQC for its own sake? As in, you would miss it if FDev removed it? It seems trophies are the reason it's currently in demand.

I do wish they'd remove my CQC standing from the main game's cockpit. That's about as useful as having a plaque at work with my NBA standing (I don't play basketball at all).

Its an interesting point, there are some, and it would be better if it was given love. I don't mind the mechanics, its just the fact you get nothing for playing it really. Most I have come across are just in it for the trophy hunt. I guess the trophies make it more popular that it would have been otherwise! :)

You actually do get something for hitting 50 then resetting back to Rank 1. You get a system permit to the CQC home system which has every weapon in the game at a 20% discount. Also get the FDL and Vulture at a 20% discount.

Yeh, I guess take the small things. It should be a bit more, maybe 20% on all the combat ships but oh well.

Is there anyone playing CQC on PS4 anymore? I managed to get into one match the day I downloaded this but now, I just sit there waiting without ever finding a game. :| or is CQC just broken at the moment?
Yes, we like to get about 6 guys and fight it out. It is a good change it up sometimes when you are grinding.
