Is anyone still Xeno-Friendly? If so why?

Perhaps FDev added a way to keep track of cmdrs who attacked Thargoids, which might influence future responses of these aliens.

If you look at your right hand panel stats page there is a section listing the Encounters you've had (you've probably seen it). Who knows what other stats might be being recorded in the background without our knowledge.

Let me put an idea out there....

Currently, we have TWO (2) Fed "factions" = Zach Hudson + Felicia Winters

We have FOUR (4) Imp "factions" =
Emperor Arissa Lavigny-Duval ((since so many ppl have asked me, it's pronounced La-VEEN-yee Doo-VAHL))
Princess Aisling Duval ((... which is Irish and properly pronounced either "Ash-Lynn" or "Ash-Ling", but NOT Ayz-Ling))
Denton Patreus ((... pa-TRAY-us..))
and old Zemina Torval.

I bet it was originally spoke eye-sling but all the drunken slurring made Ash-Lynn and Ash-Ling a common pronouncement amongst the Irish

Denton Patreus ((... pa-TRAY-us..))
and old Zemina Torval.

There is EVERY CHANCE that Patreus could turn out to be a "double-agent" for the Fed, helping to push the Fed Anti-Xeno agenda, under the auspices of the Empire, and could very likely "bring" all his followers over to the Fed side (along with his huge fleet) when he "reverts"...
That would bring the tally "back" to a more even 3 vs 3 (though the Feds might likely be far better armed, overall, in terms of fleet numbers)

From Princess Aisling's position on Slavery, you might infer that (despite the "dirty necessities" inherent in PowerPlay) she would be inclined to PEACEFUL motivations, which would line up nicely enough with Emperor Arissa's position; and Torval would be of an "old-school" mind (and may thus be discounted) LOL

Read the books "Premonition" or "Out of Darkness" if you want the backstory that proves that the Thargoids are not friendly, the two factions, what we know of their motivations, etc. As for how they've progressed in the game that can be explained by:
A. Game mechanics. They weren't interactive at first, so they're not being immediately hostile was part of that design.
B. Strategy: The first encounters were scouting missions. We severely hurt them years ago with the Mycoid virus. They were scanning our ships and testing us. They're getting progressively more hostile as time passes because we're not that much of threat AND more of their forces are moving in.

As for the politics you described above, again read "Premonition" or go to the Elite Dangerous Wiki site and read about "The Club":
  1. Hudson is a complete puppet - not just of the corporations that make up the Federation, but also of the Club. He is the only political figure we see being given explicit instructions via one of the Club's members or agents.
  2. Petreus is a leader in the Empire's military. Of course he is going to be bellicose - at least in public. Most of that is actually calculated swagger and he's far more strategic and level headed than public knows. He may also have some ties to the Club, though this isn't fully made clear in "Premonition."
  3. Aisling is just a popular figure who loves media attention and influence. It's "all about her" and her stance on anything really doesn't matter.
  4. Arissa is shown to be a level-headed leader. She also doesn't like the Club's (doesn't know it's name) motives and manipulation. She sent them a "message" saying as much, by having all of Salome's escort ships (on her way to prison) have names that directly reference the Emperor and then destroyed them all without leaving any traces when she had Salome rescued. This did get the Club's attention.

So Petreus isn't a double-agent - unless he is a pawn of the club. His posturing, and Hudson's responses, were all orchestrated by the Club to get Humanity's superpowers as armed up as possible before the Thargoids return.

Thank you, Lily, for coming back on this li'l thing. :)

((A "sideways-related" topic, since "xeno-" also refers to "foreign", in any form...))

There's a chance you could be right; however, when you look at "Siobhan" -- presuming you don't already know -- how would you pronounce THAT name? :D
OLD Irish names have unexpected pronunciations; that is to say, while it's "sensible" to expect "Aisling" to sound like "eye-sling" or "ay-sling" or similar, the Truth is far from it.
"Siobhan" looks REALLY odd, but it's pronounced "shiVAUGHN" .. er.. "shiVAWN" maybe clearer, since "laugh" kinda throws the "-augh" sound sideways from e.g. how it is in "taught"...
There's also children's author Eoin Colfer's name... The "answer" turns out to be really simple...
"Eoin" is 'simply' pronounced "Owen"! :O
Thanks in large part (probably) to Sinead O'Connor's music fame, her name's pronunciation is already well known.
.. being "shinADE" .. but perhaps kids & those who've never been exposed to it are still likely to say sthg like "sinEED"... :p
I've had occasion to wonder about the various people who put up YouTube videos on Elite Dangerous, whether commenting on PowerPlay, or the Major Factions (Federation, Empire, Alliance), and their in-game power-heads / leaders / representatives, and .. well .. totally bungling / wrangling the pronunciation of the various names.. :O
(e.g. Laa-VIGG-knee error! Closest "common" word to compare is "vignette" - 'veen-YET' [French]) LOL

Not a "big deal" at the end of the day, but I imagine most people would prefer to Get It Right, first time out, rather than find themselves embarrassed, esp. if they met someone in Real Life with that or a similar name! ;)

Thank You, Lily!

Did the Guardians not die because they scored an own goal using AI? They tried to communicate with the Thargs but the Thargs were indifferent to communication (I've my own theory as regards that).

And here's humanity, strolling into bases as if we owned the Galaxy and taking whatever we want....and at some point we will encounter that AI. Won't that be fun :)

The thargoids are a red herring for the true enemy: The guardians.

What happens when we start winning this war against the thargoids? What if they aren't invading our space at all, but rather being chased?

In this case they must learn to negotiate and not kill us.

That doesn’t detract from the fact that Thargoids are great fun to shoot at, ergo we must fight them.

Couldn’t agree more

In the possible case the Thargoids are fleeing from the Guardians(' Autonomous Constructs), I AGREE it WOULD be best if they would learn to Communicate (before learning to "negotiate") ;) .. and not kill us.. :D

HOWEVER ...

.. there yet remains MUCH we simply DO NOT "KNOW" about Thargoids...

?- does our use of Hyperspace / WitchSpace affect / offend / harm them?
--> that means our going through space -- especially when in "their space" -- is like an attack.

?- does any of our communications technology affect / offend their physiological makeup?
--> our attempts at "communication" we take for granted MIGHT be "offensive" to them.
--> and if they don't "understand" it as "communication", they may ONLY see it as an "attack".

?- does the WAY Guardian Tech works (or is made) cause Thargoids any Harm, eg electro-..?
--> if so, it'd explain a great deal about their TYPICALLY negative reaction to Guardian Tech.
--> ?- Could that also explain Ram Tah's comment about
the Thargoids apparently* / allegedly* rejecting the Guardians' attempts at Communication?
* "apparently / allegedly" -- remember, this is ONE MAN's (Ram Tah's) interpretation - he could be mistaken! :O
(He isn't Perfect, and he's not God, even if he's a Genius / Atheist (ha!) - to ERR is HUMAN.) ;)

?- what about the potential for TWO "warring races/factions" of Thargoid?
--> there could be 1 "very violent / warmongering" race/faction .. vs .. 1 "relatively peaceful" race/faction
--> there has previously been mention of such two:: "Klaxxians" vs "Oresrians"
--> ?- how can we know which of the two factions Humans have been attacking / killing?? Possibly BOTH, by now!
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/411162-Thargoid-war-Oresrians-and-Klaxxians

INDISCRIMINATE killing of "ALL" Thargoids puts us in an untenable position of literally alienating a potential ally! One which is highly likely to be MUCH better equipped to deal with the warring faction than our own slowly-developing technology can be depended upon to save us in good time...

CANONN INTERSTELLAR are working quite tirelessly to try to "decode" the "identity marks" on the different Thargoid craft, finding a pattern between them, and trying to figure out what MIGHT mean what.....

We MUST NOT allow the indiscriminate targeting / killing of "all" Thargoids...

Quite simply because we MIGHT very well NEED one half of them to save us from the other half!

(No.. I don't expect (the average) trigger-happy, pew-pew-loving, Thargoid-murdering, mostly-immature ignoramuses to even consider this plea; I'd LOVE to be pleasantly surprised though..!!)
