is frontier being too clever for their own good

Isn't it more about the believability of the universe in ELITE and FRONTIER? It's got a depth of immersion, a sense of really being there, but that's maybe more about graphics than gameplay.

There you go, exactly. I think that is what's going to make E: D so damn epic, FD haven't lost any of that magic. The DDF and FD's interaction there positively drips with it. I think E: D will be like a big bag of Walkers crisps, once you start eating you just won't be able to stop! Problem is, FD's bag of crisps just won't end. I mean, with modern day eye candy and all this detail can you really see anything coming along to replace it? It's depth, it's level of detail? Can there be anything other than what something FD make in the future and take to an even higher level? :D I've heard of nothing out there, nothing coming even close, anyone else?

Elite Dangerous, is not a single player game. Versions of the past were single player games. Elite Dangerous is different. It is predominantly a multiplayer game with single player options. ------

David Braben: "The obvious biggie: it is multiplayer. I think that makes a huge difference to the game. Once you've got a multiplayer environment, it completely changes the dynamic of the game. You can co-operate, go on missions together, meeting your friend in a certain place. That brings in so many more game mechanics, I think it's fascinating. Then of course, there’s the way you can interact with all those players, it’s so much deeper than when you’re just against a robot."

:)

'If' I wanted to, I could play it without a net connection, yes? So really, it's more than just a multiplayer with single player options bolted on, its equally both 'if' you want it to be. :D

However it will be possible to have a single player game without connecting to the galaxy server. You won't get the features of the evolving galaxy (although we will investigate minimising those differences) and you probably won't be able to sync between server and non-server (again we'll investigate).

So it's both. :)

Not so fast young man :D

There are 2 versions of the game that are essentially the same, but subtly different:

- Offline (solo)
- Online (solo/group/all)

Offline plays like online but doesn't have major events - these are injected into the universe courtesy of the GMs/Devs/God!.

ETA: In effect, solo online plays just like MP without the oiks.

Read again ! :p

lol Okay okay ... but ... I have the option to install on two drives and have one as a pure single player game and one as multiplayer (however I choose to set it up). :D

Stop thinking in terms of single / multiplayer.

Think in terms of offline / online.

Online solo for all intents and purposes is single player .. it's just that it's an enhanced version compared to offline (solo).

Although the offline mode can be interresting if you are on the move without internet connection
