is it best to sell off your ship components before selling your ship?

I recently did this with a Type 6. I sold all the modules and downgraded the remaining modules (fsd, power plant, thrusters etc) to lower classes and grades.

It saved me a few tens of thousands credits

I thought the add-ons were value added but now I'm not so sure. I traded Cobra > Viper > Cobra and it felt like I was shortchanged somewhere. Would be good to get 100% confirmation either way.

If you sell/downgrade all the components you get the full price back. If you just sell or trade in the ship you get hit with -10% on the value of the entire ship.

Save Money by stripping your ship before trading it in

I have just upgraded my Cobra to an Asp. I did a bit of Maths during the upgrade.

I was offered 8,851,034cr trade in on my Cobra.

I then sold off all the modules and weapons that I could and downgraded all non sell-able items to the lowest spec (and cheapest) that I could.

I made 9,568,644cr from the sale of the items and the stripped down Cobra had a trade in value of 239,311cr

So all in the Cobra was worth 956,971cr more if I sold off all the modules before trading it in which is good to know.

Happy New Year!

Also, if you are upgrading to a ship that uses the same size modules, then you will have them available for buy back in the station even if it doesn't normally carry that grade in your class, which can be helpful if you have the cash to rebuy them and had some rare modules.

Yeah, good point, I ended up re-buying many of my top notch components!
