I have a PS4 Slim, which I adore, and I'm suddenly interested in the Scorpio, only because of how Elite might look on it vs. the PS4. For me price is a huge reason for going console over gaming PC (convenience is the other reason). If the Scorpio is comparable to the PS4 Pro in cost, I might be very tempted, especially since that gives me an entirely different platform to go along with my less-than-pro PS4. Looking at the specs, people are thinking Scorpio may be much more expensive despite what Microsoft has claimed in the past. Time will tell.

All that said, the graphics and / or framerate will need to be vastly superior to the PS4 for me to even consider the Scorpio (I've been in the Playstation camp from the beginning), and I'm going to play ED on the PS4 long enough to make sure I actually love the game enough to warrant the expense of another console. No matter how much I love Elite, I doubt I'll ever get another gaming PC. Been there, done that; never again, unless I win the lottery.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a £600 - £650 price tag on the Scorpio if it is as good as the first writes up say (spec wise).

i am sorry for my reply on the Scorpio now. It started something I really did not intend. No matter what your choice of platform they are all Great for ED. But each has its own sections here and we should use intended sections for your thoughts on them. Consoles are a tricky subject when talking about different platforms. That's the only reason I say that and being active on the PlayStation forums I know form experience.

As a Playstation fan on the Playstation forum, I welcome the Scorpio because competition between the consoles spurs innovation, and thus everyone wins. But like you, I'm also going back on my reply because I never get the first version of new technology (despite the temptation) - I always wait for the 2nd iteration. So I'll patiently enjoy ED on PS4 until the PS5 is released :)

Speaking of patience, WHEN IS ED COMING OUT FOR THE PS4?????

Yeh, maybe Scorpio will spur on Sony to release a PS4 Pro 2.0 ;)

If you read some of the interviews with the Braben, he is also hoping that what they are developing with ED can be brought across the upgraded future Playstations and in fact it is developers like FDev that can make this happen, if we support them! FDev have, therefore been trying to future proof the console versions of ED for exactly that purpose - especially as their stated aim is a 'long term' 'long life' sandbox game with, effectively, a non-completion date but a continuous evolution.

They need to get it out for PS4 first! :)

I have been scouring the Internet religiously ever since the announcement hoping for a definitive release date or something. So far, it's been like pulling teeth from a crocodile. At least give us a little crumb now and then to help us poor slobs with PS4'S endure the wait. I know the peeps at Fdev are hard at work, but in the immortal words of Dr. Evil...."throw me a frickin bone here, I need the info".

Well whoever discovers and shares the launch date first should have his name immortalized in the annuals of ED history, just like the guy who first discovered the Thargoids :)

GREAT IDEA, I am 68 years old and have never had my 15 minutes of fame. SO, I am going to take a stab at immortalized and state that ED will be released on the PS4 platform and downloadable May 15, 2017.

Come on Sony, make it happen!

I was wanting it this week along with 2.3 but that's not going to happen at this point. They would announced it by now. I am guessing they will announce it two weeks prior to release. Just sucks seeing the Xbox and PC players all excited for 2.3 and we seem to be the bride maids! I know I am crying about it but just want to get into space and breathe the vacuum of space.

Like many, I'm itching to play ED on my PS4 as well. At this point, I hope its released in mid May or sooner, polished and ready to go

I think we will see it first half of May. Or maybe, I'm just hoping ;) This coming week is 2.3. The following week, I think we will finally have some more PS4 news. There is also the incoming event at the end of April? Would have been nice to allow the PS4 players a chance at participating, but I think that has sailed already unless the even goes on for 2 months. I think it sets up well to have these three events continue to give news cycles for FD. Then shortly after will be E3; not sure what they have for there, maybe news for next expansion?
