Is it possible for big ships to beat small ships in PvP?

Basically the title- I'm curious as to how big ship commanders deal with a specific type of small ship opponent in the current meta.

Let me explain. A friend and I have been messing around with putting a Fed Corvette up against an Imp courier. The courier is engineered to be crazy fast (around 800 speed). Using resonating cascade, the courior can disable then destroy the corvette if it gets favorable positioning at the start of the fight.

Conversely, the corvette seems completely incapable of ever killing the courier- with the courier's speed, we have yet to come up with a setup that allows the corvette to burst down the courior before if can boost away.

Thus, the courior never dies, always can dictate if a battle will happen, and will eventually get the right circumstances to take the vette down.

Is there any counter to this sort of strategy or is that simply the meta?

(Note, I'm not complaining, purely curious. A small ship should definitely be able to beat a big ship with the right setup- I just don't see ANY setup that can beat this sort of small ship build)

No. Courier Pilots just run away at 800m per second. A corvette can only boost to 375 with G5 Dirty Drives.

You can equip Grade 5 Long Range Railguns but the max range is only 6kms. The courier usually is out of your range before you can do any damage.

Even IF you managed to score a direct hit or managed to almost break the courier's shields, the will just run away and reboot.

In order to catch and kill a speedyboi, you must build a speedyboi

That's why the iCourier is the most ungankable ship in game and no gankers really ever put effort into interdicting you in an iCourier.

Congratulations, you've found the iWin button.

Although there is something off with your Corvette if the Courier manages to kill it. Down your shields with reverbs yes. Killing it after that?
Either your build is suboptimal or your flying.

To clarify, I never actually killed the corvette myself, but I've seen videos of other courier commanders ganking vettes with the strategy and making it work. So what you're saying is, if both are engineered, neither ship can kill the other? What would the vette do to counter this?

Get out of the vette into something small, fast and nimble with decent DPS.

Yeah, I think I know the vids. Rinzler posted one in the past where he eventually ran silent and smacked his ship againt the courier, end of vid.
Maybe its a good thing a Corvette can kill a Courier as much as the other way around.

Why would you fly a Courier tho?
I don't understand the context to your question?

There are other alternatives to a courier. You can build a Viper or Cobra that can catch and kill a "Speedyboi" Courier.

The Imperial Courier has a very high shield multiplier thanks to it's low mass. Thats really the only thing going for it. That and it's speed.

I would take a Viper or Cobra over it any day personally.

If the small guy sticks around, it'll inevitably get beaten.

Depends on the flying skills and proper build of the large Ship though - although same could be said about the speedboat driver.
Make a few classic mistakes and both can vanish rather quickly.

That statement is true only with incompently flown Icouriers.
Depends on the pilot. Let's say a 800m's courier is gaining on me at 200m a second. My Railguns have 6kms of range. That would still give me enough time to get through the couriers shield and one shot it's plant. Because the 800m p/s couriers dont have armor, usually have a undersized plant and a weak shield.
