Newcomer / Intro Is it safe to exit the game mid-flight?

just wondering if it is safe to exit the game mid-flight. The other day courier rang the bell and i made sure to get to the door in time, but some NPC took the opportunity to kill me, get my mission load and i picked up a fine for not being able to completing the mission on top of having to buy my Cobra again through the insurance. Argh... So, what's the best way to stop the game? Do i exit to main screen or desktop mid-flight for ensuring nothing unexpected happens to my spacecraft whilst getting my home delivery? ;-)

Best thing is to quit to Main Menu. Once you log back on, you'll be in normal space, so you need to enter supercruise again. Otherwise, nothing bad will happen to you. Note that you need to log out, not just go to the log-out screen (where you can change Options, etc.). This alone will not save you from attack.

Exit to the main screen is normally fine. Try not to do that in rings / near planets as if you are away a while you can respawn in a planet / asteroid - which doesn't end well (but ... space is big )

I have to frequently to take care of my youngest. I never ran into issues. Well, you lose whatever location you had targeted, but that's rarely an issue.

As far as i know, this is no longer the case, when you log back in you will be next to the ring, but a bit above it. I log often inside rings and moved away for a long time now.
