Is it still too early, to ask for an offline game mode again?

I remember the kickstarter campaign and the offline mode goal; abandoned later by technical difficulties...

Now we are in 2020. We have fast and big SSDs, on our computer/consoles. Also; some games already reached the 100Gb/150Gb installation size. EDSM and INARA can maintain and support big databases: star systems, bodies, stations, factions AND players's achievements and discoveries.

ED has its problems but we don't have nothing like it; simple and fun, both on pc and consoles with an HOTAS or PS/XBOX controller.

Why can't we have a full 200Gb Elite Dangerous installation, for offline gameplay too? Two independent CMDRs: online (what we have) and offline (thinking on the future)... sometimes we don't have internet access or is very, very slow.

FD, can you take it in consideration again?

Best regards to all

*I hope you can read this; from the Beagle relay to the areas on the south... we need a FC here.

Not early. Not late.
Pointless.

I suspect the original Offline yeah no a month prior to release was due to FDev wiring the game’s systems too much to the online portion, and them not wanting their server code out in the wild with the offline game.

In case people have forgotten, the devs have said that when the game is shut down they will release a Galaxy “snapshot” so the game should be playable offline. Whether that happens or not, or whether things like the BGS would still work, is hopefully still far off into the future.

Edit: David Braben - “We have no intention of taking the servers down, but I understand what you are getting at. We plan to archive the game from time to time (ie matching client and servers and game world state), and would release such an archive if the servers were to come down. That would also address the issue of how you preserve an online game for the future, from the whole 'retro' perspective.

I play ED since the alpha on PC, online-open mode. Today; I've received my physical copy of ED + Horizons, for the PS4. I don't have PSN and I don't play any game online, on the PS4... just a thought.

My daughters wanted “Horizon Zero Down”; I wanted “Elite Dangerous”... I bought a PS4 😁

How would the BGS work with nobody else pushing it but yourself?

Is it working at all? Apart from the negative impact of the LTD prices going down of course...
yes, BGS is working quite well and affected by players (in all three game modes). With offline game version there would be just static unchanging universe except that tiny area where would single player operate.

Thanks
Well I guess players who ask for an offline version of the game don't really care of the BGS and that they could live with a static version that receives maybe 1 update per week or even less.
