Because I'm sure as heck getting fed up with only having the Pilot's Federation & Onionhead emblems to use.

In this age of gaming where it's all about having the ability to personalise our avatars, (in Elite that's your ship), I feel FD are falling a little behind. Surely custom emblems are possible?

I mean, have you played Forza? If you saw the custom liveries people have on their cars in that games, well, it makes you wonder why we don't have a small version of that technology in our game, just for emblems.

I'm not proposing full livery editing.

However, FD aren't exactly capitalising on the market potential for emblems. Surely it's time they offer a range of emblems, you know, basic vectors of animals, numbers, racing stripes, whatever. As premium add-ons, no less. I'm not demanding freebies here.

Or they open up the emblem slot to user creation, maybe with a premium tool sold through the store.

Right now though, I feel a little cheated that I can't get a horse, pegasus or unicorn on my ship.

I'm sure that there are plenty other people who want something more interesting on their emblem slots too. Pilot's Federation emblems & Onionhead gets old quick.

I'm interested in customizing the ships very much,
but i voted no, let me explain:

Let us say a player created a new logo to use on his ship,
FD surely is not gonna update the game every day, just for stickers.
So it is likely those logos will be transferred to you on the fly,
when you encounter a player using his custom logo.

This will result in bandwith usage, for single encounters this will not be problematic,
but larger engagements will actually be affected.
There is enough trouble with the P2P infrastructure allready,
and i don't think FD will invest into people checking all the
custom emblems, approving or revisiting them.

The ability to display the name of my ship(s) is probably most important to me. If I can do that through an emblem, that would be fine

Which is why I quoted Forza. That game doesn't update every time a new livery is designed.

You can play seamlessly with other players regardless of their liveries. And each car can have as much as 11,500 vector layers.

This is an implementation detail. Just because FDev could choose to do it in the worst way possible, doesn't mean they have to. There are a number of ways around this problem, from low bandwidth solutions to more integrated solutions that could also be revenue generators for FDev.

This... voted no

I would prefer FD used the time better, instead of wasting it on logos.

I agree with much of what you say but still voted yes.

This is not because you're wrong in any aspect, but because there are technical and procedural answers to all of the problems you see.

No from me; putting a personalized logo on every ship in game means a lot of strain on the multiplayer game network. On the other hand personalized ship names, as text only, in my opinion will be lighter.

I'd rather see more earned badges through community goals, special events and specific in game accomplishments and achievements.

I think that player groups that do get themselves through the process of getting in the game should indeed be able to work with Frontier to design their own emblem and be able to control who flies it.

I like what they are doing for the Distant Worlds group. It's a really nice gesture. Kudos.

Why can't we do this? Simple...

And if you don't think this will happen...just check out the X-rated Forza skins that are all over the place. Let's face it, the 12 year old boys who are busy flying around in the starter systems with big ships blowing up new players would use giant decals, just because their adolescent minds would think its funny.

This is not exacty a blocking problem. A single instance can only hold a limited number of players so the amount of additional data would not be that high. The real problem is control on what people put on their icons.

Emblems and skins, and I'm not talking about one-off community competitions either. Frontier needs to make their own Workshop and release a toolkit for modding assets.

They're allergic to money though, sooo....

Buddy that's Microsoft for ya, and nothing else. Take a look at the Steam workshop. It's been around longer, is curated and works marvelously while being virtually phallus free except for those games in which the devs just don't care.

I get the worry, but... I play Forza every single day. With the absolute worst of players. Their language over the mic' certainly confirms as much.

Thing is, not once have I seen crudely drawn genitalia on a single car. And I've been racing online since 2011.

I just don't get where this fear comes from. I've never seen it in action.

Lots and lots of decals or a decal editor - or both.
Naming ships.
Yes, yes, yes!

I am amazed that there STILL are no PowerPlay decals.
Amazed that they did not come with the PowerPlay upgrade itself.
There should be some designated PowerPlay paint jobs as well.
Paint jobs that you only get to use when you are pledged. :)

as long as there is a vetting process. I'd hate to see Pen*s or "My little Ponies" all over the place.
