Is It Time for "Reusable" Collector Limpets?

That isn't want I am referring to.

I'm talking about collecting them BACK into your Cargo Hold and reusing them on another USS.
maybe have them have a hull/chassis damage rating that slowly goes down each use until failure?

They are currently looking into the limpet situation relating to controller racks. Similar to vehicle bays or hangars where we would outfit a rack bay and then install the limpet controllers. I imagine it’s like the room or space in your ship filled with server racks and hardware.

If there’s a focus thread, be sure to add your thoughts OP

I’ve always thought the idea that limpets explode after a single use is idiotic. Such a waste of material. That’d be like throwing your cell phone away and buying a new one after each call.
I'm not sure, but I think the idea behind limpets exploding with targeted cargo was to help a pilot exchange limpets for cargo in a one-for-one way. The devs might have thought that is how people would get rid of unnecessary limpets filling the hold. But in practice, that's method would be a bit fiddly and cumbersome.

Being able to reclaim them would be helpful and considerate. Granted, they're cheap, but cargo space isn't, and synthesis of limpets is rather staggeringly high considering they cost less than a can of biowaste.

That is basically the point of my original post. Considering Material collection is a big part of what Collectors are used for these days, there is no cargo capacity conflict in this scenario.

But if you are running a lean ship with say only 4t of cargo space, with reusable limpets, you could buy 2-4 and be able to go out material farming. You can't really do that with the existing system.

I definitely will!

These could even be offered as a NEW Collector variant. Maybe have them cost a bit more $$ and perhaps a few other differences.

If you're not targeting anything as you release the limpet, it will keep gathering stuff in your vicinity for several minutes.

I think you need to read my entire original post. ;)

This wasn't about how to use Limpets. It was about being able to collect them back into your ship's cargo hold, fly off to another USS and redeploy the same limpets multiple times.

Alternatively, a ship launched "fighter" variant that can serve as a materials collector would be an interesting way to expand the utility of an existing mechanic, and the Collector Limpets would still be there for those who can't or don't want to use it..

Or make a variant ship launched bay that functions like a Star Trek style shuttlecraft and can be used for personal and cargo transportation plus some limited self defense ability.

Yeah, I dont know why we can't play as the limpets. I think it would be fun to be able to scoop stuff and it would do wonders for ship scale too if it was in first person. Another missed gameplay opportunity.

Seeing as this is a limpet-related thread, quick question.... where the heck do I tell my limpets what to ignore and what to pick up, or do I have to submit a formal written request through the LWU (Limpet Worker's Union) for approval beforehand?

I never proposed that earlier in the thread. :)

Synthesis would be the answer, if the cost in materials to synthesize a lot of 4 limpets wasn't quite so high.
