Is P2P gaming a security issue ?

There are security issues on dedicated server as well... using the internet is a security risk :)

For better or worse FDEV has chose peer-2-peer.
It's not going to change, they made it clear this is what they planned from the beginning.
If you would like to donate 5m£ they would likely consider creating an entire new net architecture for the game just for you. but face it... this is already past-tense. It's not going to change before the game comes out and the entire code base is written for peer-2-peer.
So no matter what "YOU" want at this point relating to this... it ain't gonna happen. That ship sailed loooong ago.

I agree man, I just think people should be aware of the potential flaws in P2P if they weren't already aware of it, I wouldn't want to pay monthly for example to get a more security robust system, I guess we are stuck with it, I wonder how well it works through a VPN would probably be the best secure choice for a player that was worried about it.

Would not try this at home a DDos Script is written fast and with a good internet connection you don´t really notice when you ar DDosíng.
the problem is in some countries, Germany as example the existence of such a script on your pc makes you a criminal using it even if the other side agreed could cause serious trouble.

Now... THAT I agree and I even brought up this very concern way way back when I first joined... I think it was my first ever post. peer-2-peer leaves a lot of control to the user... and I cited the game "Mu" where using a local 3rd party setting adjust, each hit was equal to 500 hits by changing the bits as they left your machine.. kind of a combat spam. And they did more but the point was you became a god once you went to peer2peer since the environment was not controlled. Now there are LOTS of ways to do a different security and checks since then. But they point is valid... but also, having said that, there are several peer2peer games that run just fine.
