[Before I go on, let me just say that I am not talking about arenas, leaderboards, staged combat events and the like. I am talking about PvP in Open mode.]
I ask this because PvP in this game is so weak and keeps getting "nerfed" with each update, or so it seems to me.
I really feel that FDev just gives lip service to PvP and that's it.
There is no reward for PvP, only punishment.
C&P can be onerous to the point of discouraging all PvP. I get it that the carebears among you will rejoice to hear that, but for me, someone who thinks PvP should be something that people should be able to engage in if they want to and not just when they are so absurdly wealthy that they can afford ginormous bounties, it is more than just a disincentive.
For example, some mates and I wanted to try and bring a player faction's home system into a state of lockdown. We did this by blowing up system authority ships and any other ship belonging to the player faction. We did not even once attack and kill a CMDR ship. (This to my mind is an example of PvP that does not involve shooting at other players.) We quickly obtained notorieties of 10 and many tens of millions in bounties on our heads. This seems like legitimate PvP where no soft snowflake egos got hurt yet we are hugely punished for it.
The same goes for trying to prevent CMDRs from killing Thargoids, for those of us who want to roleplay "bug huggers". It's bad enough that anyone can kill Thargoids in Solo thereby avoiding anyone else who wants to manipulate the determination of Thargoid incursion success\failure. But in Open, the only way to do this is to kill CMDRs or cause them to spend their time doing something else (like taking their home systems out of lockdown). Again, the game hugely punishes this form of gameplay and also makes it very easy to avoid by "hiding" in Solo.
FDev has made escaping interdiction ridiculously easy.
We cannot declare our player factions to be at war with another one.
There is no "Thargoid faction" to support (why then can we buy pro-Thargoid stickers for our ships?).
There is no proper naval career path (which could be a PvP thing in addition to PvE if they wanted).
Then there is the abuse of blocking players.
Some experimental effects seem to only work against other players, not NPCs.
I mean, it seems like FDev does not want PvP in ED. If so, why then can we even shoot at and damage each other's ships? Why can't "blaze your own trail" include PvP if we want? Why not just remove the ability to damage each other's ships and get it over with already FDev? At the very least that would bring an end to the awful PvE vs PvP, anyone-who-kills-another-player-ship-is-a-ganker\griefer\murderhobo\whatever debate that continues to rage on these and other forums across the internet.
FDev, make a statement already. Make a decision. Either make PvP a full-fledged, legitimate form of gameplay or remove it already. It's been four years now. Stop beating around the bush.
