Is Ramming Speed griefing?

I admit that when I first discovered there was no penalty when I intentionally rammed and destroyed a non-wanted ship I was surprised. Even more surprised when I then kept ramming a cop and still no penalty. So while I believe that anything allowed in the game is something that everyone has the right to do if they want, and not sure but one reason it may be allowed is because it is hard to program for properly assigning blame, but perhaps at least they could just give a fine to you if any ship you contact with explodes within 5 seconds? or something like that. Just damaging one should not give a fine, as ships bump accidently frequently.

I think there are other things that should be looked at before that. How about the fact you get a near instant warrant for your DEATH just because one of your gimballed lasers swayed a little far from your target and just glanced the side of another ship that was attacking the same target and was right up close to it. Or while you were firing a nice steady stream of cannons or lasers at your target, someone doing 400 in a viper came blazing across your path without warning (intentionally even) and caught a couple rounds, thereby allowing the entire RES or NAV population to jump on you and kill you.

Had a CMDR ram me in a RES today. I assume he was trying to run me off so he could have all the rats to himself. Maybe he doesn't realize he can play in solo if he doesn't want to share an instance with other players.

were you stealing his kills? i do kill rats in open, and whenever fellow cmdrs show up i hail them, offer them wing. if they don't want to share or even don't reply i'm perfectly fine. but if they then do go after my kill i will of course ram them the hell out of there. i have no problem even shooting them down if necessary, even if this means having to dock to clear my bounty. it's even fun.

ramming someone at a station? ... that's .

saying 'go play solo if you don't want to get rammed in a station' ... that's trying to justify retardness, truly epic . so one simple station rammer would play alone in open while everybody else stays in solo just because he feels entitled to ... what exactly? this has to be fixed.

I agree with regards to ramming at the station. It's one thing to ram somebody for no good reason out in space or at a gathering site, but at the station? Even I never had the desire to do that. It's should be some sort of safe haven. Sure once you exit the no fire zone all is fair in love and war, but at least let a cmdr go in and freshen up a bit in peace.

I think it should be that once in the no fire zone, no damage occurs from any ship to ship bumping. And any ships that bump twice within a small amount of time have to leave the station immediately for a couple minutes.

Actually, he stole one of our kills, and then we went our separate ways for a while. We didn't run into each other again until the herd started to thin.

I agree.

Today I have been deliberately rammed a couple of times when I left the station. Each time by the same idiotic kid. He parked just outside of the letterbox and boosted into the players leaving the station. Must have been his favourite pastime this afternoon.

I so wish this would give him wanted status.

Judging from your previous post, apparently I do.
I also know how to spell the word 'definitely' which is something else you seem to have trouble with.
You cause a person grief for no reason, then you are 'griefing'. It's amazing how some people struggle to get around this shockingly easy premise.

no you dont just because something doesnt go your way doesnt mean it greifing infact the constant moaning could be seen as griefing more than ramming

nothing upsets me more than carebear players that think nothing ever bad sould happen to them its an open game good guys and bad guys aslong as it not an exploit then its all fair game

Yeah, you could try to find some complicated algorithm comparing flight vectors and collision points but I guess this would take some time to implement.

I dont see why it needs to be complicated, you could just treat the faster moving ship as being at fault.

Trying to splat someone for no (sane) reason in a way that avoids a bounty is very very naughty and should be treated as such, if only to deter griefing.
?
Well I suppose Frontier have decided not to address the issue. I have switched to Solo Mode because of some idiot in a Clipper deliberately ramming at Lave Station.

Visited my favourite Res last night and spent a lazy hour taking out Anacondas, Pythons and Clippers. Quiet period with nothing around and I spot some laser trails in the distance so heads over for a recce.

Its another Anaconda, which I scan, target power plant and engage. Then I realise, one of the other ships engaging this conda is a Cmdr.
So out of courtesy, he targeted it first, I pull back and wait for him to finish it off.
Now he's in an Asp and he's on single ring shields and hull below 60% so when his shield go down I nip in and take the conda down to 6% hull and again retreat to let him finish her off. Which he does with just a little more damage to his hull.

Time to find some more bounties so I boost off chasing trails.

Couple of minutes later, I'm busy kill scanning an NPC when wham, I've been rammed.
I'm in a vulture with A5 shields and double A0 boosters, but it takes me down to one ring.
What the heck! it was the Cmdr I'd just helped out. Jeez!
For two minutes I kept him in my sights and used thrusters to prevent him from doing it again.
He got bored with trying and left.

Now he was wanted with shields down and hull at 55%... he would have lasted seconds if I had chosen to retaliate.

I have only died a couple of times since beta, been jumped by a pair of Cmdrs whilst (yes 'whilst' for the complaining poster) engaged with a conda. Also been set on by a Cmdr just as my shields are about to go down in another fight with a python....

I am obviously too sensitive or maybe fair minded for ED.

But I tell you, you know who you are, next time you ram me, prepare for the worst!

I personally think ramming in any situation should be considered a criminal offense, even those by accident going through the letterbox. You wouldn't let someone bump your car and drive away scot free would you? :)

I would if my car had an electromagnetic shield and the was no damage.

Perhaps the criminality could be limited to hull damage, this would avoid all kinds of situational accidental bumping.

+1, and total respect, for your control. I'd have been struggling not to turn that 55% into 5%! Ramming is HARD against someone who's expecting it, as you showed.
