Is RTX 3060 enough to play ED Horizons in VR (Q2 or G2)?

o7 Commanders. Has anyone tried playing ED Horizons in VR (Quest 2 or G2) on RTX 3060... Is that actually doable, or should I just forget it?

My current setup:
Ryzen 5 5600
32GB DDR4 3600Mhz/CL18
Nvidia RTX 3060 12 Gb
1TB PCIE3 SSD

Should be fine on that spec :)
I'm glad to hear that as I'm not keen on spending a lot on a GPU just a few months before new high end GPUs release. I can get used 3060 for 288 bucks. That's the price I can live with and still upgrade to something faster when Lovelace/RDNA3 come out.

You wont be able to run at native resolution of course. And being in the stations and other situations will take you to ASW where HUD elements and other things will sometimes look briefly wobbly. But you should be good!

What HMD are you going for? If you go Q2, I would probably set it to 80Hz and keep the resolution at 1x, which is not native btw and make sure you increase the bitrate in the oculus debug tool to 500 or you will get grainy images. I have mine set to 900 but I am running closer to native.

I have Q2 64gb/1070 (GPU not good enough for Q2 imho) but I'm thinking of getting used Reverb G2 or new Pico Neo 3 as I'd like to get uncompressed image quality. Which headset would be the best option for ED?

If you already have a Q2 and you are defo going to get the new GPU, why don't you wait and see what you can get out of the Q2 before you buy another HMD? I went from a 1070 to my current card and love my Q2. Have you played with the bitrate settings? I find it grainy as heck with default. I have it set to 900 and it looks great IMO.

That said, you can't go wrong with a second hand Reverb G2, though it might be worth checking which version it is as V1 had some issues which were completely fixed with V2. I don't know how you would tell this though.

The Pico Nea 3 looks interesting, as I think it uses DP, so theoretically uncompressed. BUT both Reverb G2 and Pico Nea 3 relies on Steam VR runtime which performs noticibly worse than the Oculus runtime

Yes, for sure. Regarding native resolution, yes, you can probably run at that easily enough, but you will be making compromises in other in-game graphics settings to do so. Native + Ultra isn't going to happen, but you'll definitely find a sweet spot between the two that is more than satisfactory.
