Is the "Ancient Ruins" mission worth making a serous attempt at?

Well, I finished one of the systems and I'm enjoying myself so far.
It's interesting enough and it's not really a grind.
I've spent longer periods driving my SRV around canyons just for the yucks.

I'm following the guide I found here: https://www.tldrgames.com/guide/elite-dangerous/elite-dangerous-complete-decoding-ancient-ruins/
Augmented by Dognosh's maps.

I gotta say, I am completely over-awed at the amount of effort it must have taken to actually figure this all out for the first time.
Most locations seem to have "extra" monoliths which don't get used so finding which ones add to the mission, and what combination of artifacts are required to activate them, must have been a helluva task.

On that note, if there's anything "missing" from the guides I've seen it's that I'd like to see more of an explanation for why you're doing what you're doing and how it was all figured out.
At least, that way, if you find you've screwed something up, you might be in a better position to fix the problem whereas we're currently in a position where we're just "following a trail of breadcrumbs" and if something goes wrong then nobody will have any idea what to do next.

On that note, am I to assume that the "extra" active monoliths might be "repeats" to create a bit of redundancy in case a player misses one somewhere?
So far I've completed Synuefe TP-F B44-0 (and got all 44 scans) and I'm pretty sure there were a few active monoliths that I didn't use.

Other observations so far:-
- I am using my AspX. Probably should have used a DBX instead. It would be easier to land in small/uneven areas.
- The monoliths have a habit of "powering down" so active ones cannot be found. Quit to main menu and then log back in to fix.
- The guides say "consider taking sulphur/phosphorous to refuel your SUV". Don't consider it. Do it. Expect to refuel at every site.
- Don't be shy about jumping back into your ship and moving around to land close to a monolith you're looking for. It's much easier to navigate from the air.
- Fit a surface scanner to your ship in order to earn extra credits and make it easier to find sulphur and phosphorous.

Dognosh's maps are a great help (currently got them pinned to my wall) and I'd rep him except that I already did recently.

There are 100s of active monoliths I don't use, go to the CANNON link in my OP and look for yourself ;)
I am in the process of slightly updating my guide, and adding time taken for each map.

Is 201 Million Credits worth it?

This isn't your average Elite: Mission. This one takes a good bit of time and effort, and many stops at many locations to complete.

I personally find it a good deal of fun, as it's a change of pace from the regular routine - whatever your regular routine might be.

I do it because I love it,a superb way to spend a few hours a month(I plan to do it at least once a month,if not more) :D

Does this mission count toward Trade Rank? If so, is it more effective to do this on repeat as opposed to doing bulk trading?

One thing I did find strange was that on completing the mission, I jumped straight to Trade Elite from Tycoon. I've hardly done any trading for ages so it came a bit of surprise.

Makes no sense to me - there's no trading involved, so why would it affect your trade rank?

I could have understood if it make a difference to exploration rank, but even that's a bit of a stretch.

Agreed ! It shouldn't affect trade, but seeing as it is a mission, do normal missions affect trade rank?

So, had 2 big sessions at this mission and it all went incredibly well.

It seems a bit daunting at first but then I started trust the guide I was using and enjoy the challenge of finding my way around the ruins in an SRV and it was all going very well.
99 scans completed and it's time to head for the last location.

I see a convenient landing area at the final site, land, deploy my SRV, transfer my ancient nicknacks, reverse out from under my ship and discover this.

Was considering just logging to main menu and then restarting but, y'know; death or glory.
My ships often ended-up underneath the planet's surface after dropping out of orbital cruise and I could usually get back out without my ship being destroyed so if a planet can't kill my ship, one pokey ancient relic isn't going to be a problem, right?

Lifted off and all hell broke loose.
Shields died, hull taking damage.
Finally broke free of it with 20% hull remaining.
Parked a loooong way from ruins, completed final scans and then took it VERY steadily heading back to Meene.
Mission accomplished. [up]
