Is the clipper about to make a glorious return to PVP?

The Clipper is a great ship for running away in whilst flicking V's out of the window at your retreating pursuers :D Even if something was available to take out your SC temporarily you could possibly still escape. I once had my drives shot out and managed to put so much distance between me and my pursuer that I was able to activate silent running to hide and then auto-repair the drive and jump away before he caught up with me.

Eh, "It's just a beta" isn't really an excuse. Beta is final testing. Very little actually gets changed. There are bugs that are still present that existed in the 2.0 beta, and some new ones even popped up that weren't there when it was released (hostage missions). Addressing issues before they're issues is generally a better way to go.

But this Beta is going to become Mayhem before a lot of effects are adjusted .... and the Mayhem is official .... it's going to be ...... well ... mayhem !!!!

What about the Viper Mk.III? If the thruster upgrades for class 2 and 3 slots are even half-decent, it will turn the Viper into a little beast. I'm really looking forward to trying it out.

The Viper 4 will also get this.. I am looking forward to the new thrusters and distributor for engine power, the Viper 4 in 2.1 is going to be SICK.

Will it? According to this:

It's just size 2 & 3 thruster slots and the Viper IV uses a size 4 slot so I'm not sure if it will qualify. If it did though it'd be sweet :) Hmm, wonder how fast an Imp Eagle will go... that thing is already really quick..

The Courier could see the biggest benefit.

Yes.. a courier has insanely high shields even with bi-weaves. Couple that fact with 3 frags, a load of hull, boosters (since you no longer will need heat sinks) and the ability to run off super fast and recharge them and you could have a very nice PVP ship that doesn't rely on SCBs.. (Albeit one that would lead to long fights)

I hope it becomes the fastest ship in the game. It needs.... Something. It needs a niche.

It kind of already does.. it's become the ship of choice in Oogie Boogie's 1v1 pilot rankings because the rules are that you have to use ships that fit on a small landing pad and the courier is clearly the best of the small ships.

The vulture is s small ship, i would take that to a fight over the courier any day and i love the courier.

Have you ever tried to hit a non-consenting NPC or player with a mine? [hotas]

I managed to hit an NPC with a mine once. I did have to fly around the mine several times before the NPC eventually blundered into it. That was in Beta and I've never equipped mine launchers since then

It's the best small PvE ship definitely, but not so great in PVP... it's a fairly easy to hit with fixed weapons compared to the likes of the courier or the viper 3/4. I've not checked exhaustively but I'm yet to hear of anyone using a Vulture in the 1v1 league.

Actually that's because the vulture invalidates the other small ships not the opposite ;) nobodys allowed to use the vulture in the 1v1 league or everyone would be in a vulture

Ahh.. you're right, it's explicitly viper/cobra/dbs/dbe/courier/eagle... I'm not convinced about your other point though.. Perhaps it's just that the galaxy is full of crap vulture pilots and the odd very good viper pilot but I've always thought vipers are harder to beat in PVP than vultures. It might be because I tend to use rails and vipers are much harder to hit..

The vulture has the most firepower, shielding and hull strength of any small, also 2 size higher distributor than most. It is extremely popular, which is probably why you find plenty of bad vultures :p but that doesn't change that it is statistically the best small ship by a very sizeable margin

Well, technically the DBE and the Cobra can pack more armour and can both out ram a vulture. The vulture does have the best sustained fire power, but it's also one of the easiest to hit. I think that makes a really big difference if you're in a chaff spamming/fixed weapon fight.. They also seem to have a really exposed canopy. Several of the fights I've had with vultures in my DBS have ended with a rail to canopy which has then smashed in one hit. I did get beaten by Heisenberg once in his silent vulture but he is currently #2 on the top pilots so I'm not sure that counts :) He was using a frag/PA setup at the time and I was fairly new to PVP at the time and didn't know how to keep my distance from his frags. (I have since learned :)

Additionally, some of the most popular PVP weapons *currently* only come in size 2 flavors.. So a DBE can technically out-gun a Vulture in terms of DPS with 3 x size 2 rails.. albeit not for a sustained period.

I'm expecting "FD balance" will make the power requirements on these upgraded thrusters huge, resulting in basic shields, few or no SB, etc., etc.
I'd like to be wrong on this.

I've never flown a Clipper, I've always wanted to, but only ranked up for it lately, and have been distracted by my other ships.
