Is the Cutter worth it?

Was wondering if it was worth grind out the last few ranks for the Cutter or to finish up the last few mods for my Corvette.

Best sponge in the game if fitted right. Can pump out decent damage but is limited by c7 distributor, so it's basically a Python with 2 extra meds and 1 huge. its also super expensive to fit (mine was almost a billion total, and that was with discounts).

Can also tank stations if fitted properly:

Compared to the corvette, I'd pick cutter. Cutters can't be killed by anything really, hell I've seen so many Corvettes blow up while Ive only seen 1 maybe 2 cutters pop.

So yeah, cutter is worth every penny, especially combat cutters.

Putting aside the combat cutter stuff... yes, it's worth the grind, but it's a trade ship first and foremost. Outside of trading, there's other ships that will do the day to day stuff a lot better.

I like mine, but I wouldn't go exploring in it since my Anaconda is more suited.
Combat, I'll take anything else except the Cutter. Some like it for it's shield tanking...a bit of a waste of a good trade ship if you ask me :)

Long range trading with over 50m cr per run?

Yes... Yes, its worth it... I even managed to pull a 80m cr run the other day (was lucky with the random mission generator) You can have your whole upgraded cutter paid off in about a week. I love the cutter and it just feels right for a long range fast heavy hauler.

The Cutter is a beast when it comes to mining and trading...Exploration is a possibility now due to the engineer upgrades...(30-35 ly should be possible.) Combat, well you might be better suited to another ship but my first night of Cutter pvp saw me ram a gentlemen right out of his federation pledging..( I am being literal here everybody.) Once you get the maneuverability issues worked out it is a fun ship to joust with and the other person will flinch first, trust me. ;)

It is a gorgeous ship to look at and once you have the rank you wont have that grind standing over your head. C'mon, join the Imperial Elite, own a cutter.

In my opinion the cutter is a status cymbol, its only really good for trading in large quantities, it packs a punch and its shields are mighty, but you can only fight effectively flying backwards, or with turrets (which will need modifying) as i dont think they do any damage fast enough.

Its a thing of beauty though.

This does not make ANY sense. Corvette has the second best armor, shields, and cargo capacity in the entire game. It blows up more because it's used far more as a combat ship and is in combat situations far more often.

Barely anyone uses the cutter for PvP and the corvette will out DPS a cutter any day of the week. Plus theirs the fact that a FA corvette can literally fly circles around a cutter trying to do the same thing.

Yeah its really hard to kill a cutter but you know what? It also doesn't do anything in return.

I would have to disagree. Cutter isn't the bestv1 on 1 pvp ship, but i kill corvettes in it all the time and i will tell you why.

In combat, almost everyone keeps 4 pips to weapons at all times in the corvette. I mean, its a necessity with most loadouts. And 4 pips in weapons means you don't have 4 pips in systems

I may have to fly backwards to compensate for low maneuverability, but i can keep 4 pips in shields and outlast a corvette in combat EVERY time.

I wish the big ships like this had some more small compartments; I hate sticking a discovery scanner in a big size 4 compartment, or a surface scanner, or a docking computer, or even a small limpet controller. Feels like such a waste.

Amazing trade vessel, and as of the release of the engineers, truly combat viable. Get lvl5 dirty drives on there, it's one of the most amazing transformations.

Well assuming the OP is even into PVP, this is 2.0 thinking... I've seen a fair few of each die to the rail-de-lance but in 2.1 everything is different. Big ships never die by having their shields bashed down any more so the size 8 SCB isn't the gift it used to be. Instead fighting a big ship is all about either heat (or maybe torps). Since both ships have the same number of utility slots heat sinks the shielding is basically irrelevant.

For PVE/PVP combat I'd go for the Corvette since DD5 makes it so nippy you can use fixed weapons on it and 2 huge MCs are wonderful... You also get a size 8 distributor which makes a big diff. The only reason to have a Cutter in PVP would be for chasing people and piracy.

For trade, the Cutter is clearly the best ship in the game...

Well it rather obvious that it is favoured to go for the Cutter. Does anyone know any faster methods that hip 10716 for ranking up or is it still the best method?

For now it is the best method... though with all the talk of it on the forums I would all but expect some "tweeking" to happen in that system. I think I have read 45 threads in the past two days citing this system... Get it while it is good, I doubt it will be for long.
