Is the Fer-de-Lance boring?

Had a few over the years. Always sell them. Cool ship, but the cockpit annoys me. One of the struts sits right over the time to target indicator.

Never really liked it. It's a great combat ship but the short jump range is agonizing. Feels like I'm playing with a ball and chain around my ankle.

If you're not a travelling type and want the ultimate in medium combat ships, it's a solid choice. If what you do in game is dependent on getting about, it's just not a fun ship.

Always wanted an FDL and finally bought one last week. Engineering the $#!¥ out of it. Really don’t understand all the complaints with the cockpit. Absolutely love everything about the HFS Korben Dallas :)

boring? it's possibly the only ship in the game that actually have 6 DoF handling without the need to turn off the flight assist, it's fun! :D many times I don't even know where I was going when at combat, all I know is that I circle strafe my enemies [big grin]

Yes, it is. It also has an infuriating cockpit, and annoyingly small jump range. It's a shame really, because I love the way it looks, and I love its weapon arrangement. That, and it's one of the (if not the) most effective combat ships in the game.

Well I love my FDL, fly it alot, RES hunting (farming), assassinations, even a bit of mats gathering now and again.

Lots of new ships for peeps to try out and the Chieftan is a viable alternative to the FDL, probably a lot of cmdrs are giving that a go at the moment.

i would say that the FDL is just an upsized adder but the adder has a better cockpit, i cant even bring myself to make this ship the first update to 3.0 engineering, just like pre 3.0 i couldnt be bothered with all the travel to actually get it engineered, since 3.0 ive re-engineered my FAS twice, bought and fully engineered a corvette (and put it to the side ...) ... the biggest problem is the cockpit, as a brawler the pilot should be dead centre of the viewable area for the best possible situational awareness.

I like the FDL, as I like nearly all the ships for different reasons. Just flew is about three days ago.

Even though mines engineered and has the best rang it can have, I don't fly it if I want to get half way across the bubble fast! I lump it in the same category as my Corvette in that regard.

Am I missing something here? Yes, I love flying around in a Chieftain. But if I need 100k in combat bonds to activate an Engineer I'll take the FLD as I know that ship. I'm just learning with a Chieftain. The FDL has dialed in weapons.

The question wasn't if the FDL is effective (it is wildly so); it was if the FDL is boring (which I feel it is, because of how wildly effective it is).

Im not sure if this is a self affirmation thread so not sure if I'm allowed to agree in the boredom factor.. To confess I've never bought/flown an FDL. I Refuse to and have barely any inclination to do so :/ Its like seeing a ford fiesta or BMW mini over and over again. Plus it was too good, which also put me off. Not sure whats changed if anything post 3.0, or if its just even better than previous.

Used mine for Bounty Hunting.

Bought Chieftain instead.

Sure, Chieftain is a bit slower and less shields, but it comes with more armor, lower overall price and 3 military slots.

Loving the Chieftain now and don't miss my FdL.

As a bonus the Chieftain can still do 16Ly jumprange even with full military hull, HRPs and loaded with equipment.

FdL was fun, but there's a new playa out there now :p

But, but... dat butt! The rear view is so excellent with those two huge engine pods!

As for its post-3.0 power, it is more powerful than ever. It specifically didn't get any buff, but the uniform increased power of all engineered ships (god rolls for ALL MY FRIENDS) has made it even nastier when compared to lowly NPCs.

Interesting. I very nearly bought one yesterday (chieftan). Struggling to leave my first true love (FGS). First love is python of course.

The 3 military slots lets you drop in HRP, MRP and Shield Cell Booster. This also frees up your regular slots. Since I did bounty hunting and conflict zones I put in an AFM and repair drone limpet which lets me do field repairs if I screw up and I don't have to return to a station everytime hull takes a beating or the modules are starting to get shot up. Simply fly away, stop the ship, release a limpet and run the AFM then head back into the fray.

Very happy with the Chieftain. Looks good, sounds good, 4/10 maneuverability (same as FdL and FAS), loaded with guns and equipment. What more can we ask for? :)

(very excited about Krait next though)

can get 21.5 ly jump distance engineered - mind you utility slots are empty currently so would drop a little.
Something doesn't sit right, it's either the cockpit window or the seating - doesn't look symmetric.
