"Is the game dead?" returning players keep posting here and on reddit, due to blank Galnet

Clearly the game is not dead. It's very much alive, and we're getting fleet carriers and a big update this year.

But over the last couple of weeks, I've read many posts here and on reddit from players who have taken a short break (usually some number of months). They are wondering if the game is dead?

Is this the impression Fdev wants to give people? That the game is dead?

CGs, Galnet - "no plans on returning them" - seriously? This sounds like a bad joke!

I know, you're busy with the updates, and please keep going full speed ahead with those - we are excited for them.

But I can't help but think that Fdev is shooting itself in the foot here. Even just a single, short article on Galnet would stop all this nonsense. I can understand interstellar initiatives being paused. But has FDev even launched the game, and seen their own (mostly blank) launcher? It's a perception thing, really. One article or update is a hundred percent better than literally nothing

If you want, I can spend 15 minutes and write a paragraph or two about something - anything. And I'm sure others here would volunteer as well...it seems like putting one little blurb won't disrupt ongoing dev work, will it? What am I missing here?

Nobody ever really seems to notice me much until they think I might be dead, so I can relate, and it's not all that bad.
I certainly thought trying to make GalNet have more in game related effects was worthwhile where possible, having no GalNet wasn't exactly the response I was looking for there.. I'd have been happy with "no, sorry, no time", not we're killing GalNet!

The occasional article would be nice, sheesh...

As the OP said it kinda makes the game look dead and I certainly miss GalNet audio of an evening.

6) Game no longer works through VPN connections.
I play ED through a VPN. I followed the posted workaround and it works fine. Not ideal, but hey ho ...

My thoughts on the current state of the game from a recent thread:

Which VPN service do you use and do you have a static VPN IP?
Pretty certain the IP isn't static. I'm using Mullvad.

As I say, I do get drop outs at times but it generally seems to work. Then again I'm not doing anything PvP centric (though I do play PG) so perhaps that helps?

Frontier are shooting their feet, then attacking them with an axe before dousing them in petrol and setting fire to them. Apparently the New Eta is going to justify all that has happened over the last year or so (e.g. cutting content, pushing back FCs, etc.) but I have zero optimism.

1) Michael Brooks and Paige Harvey have left Elite.
2) Patches instead of promised content.
3) Content delayed until the end of this year.
4) Galnet dead, no replacement announced.
5) Game studders, game launcher problems, network connect issues continue.
6) Game no longer works through VPN connections.

Not quite dead, but certainly dying.....
LOL Michael Brookes left the Elite part of the building a long time ago (June 2017), even before they moved into the new one. But you still see him looking through general forum chit chat, so he's around, but not for us.

You could say Ed and Paige left, that's two important community managers, also Brett.

But .....
7) Fleet Carriers officially 'mentioned' .... which means it's still alive :)

I find it unsettling when the forum's top five posts a moment ago were:

1) Who the influencers are.....
2) Be inspired to play the game....
3) The game is dead....
4) No more patches before Fleet carriers....
5) Frontier has a sale on cosmedics....

Reads like a "going out of business" sale.....
We've had worse than those examples .... far worse ! I shudder to remember some of the topics that have been circulating in the past.

And a glance further down the list shows some very positive topics:
