Ships Is the Type-9 Heavy what I seek?

I recently sold my Anaconda for a variety of reasons (hated the look, hated the cockpit location, despite numerous FSD rolls and it being stripped down, never got more than 41ly jump out of it, and several other reasons). I don't do multi-roles with my fleet, I like to have a specific purpose for each ship, that way I know the ship will be engineered and fitted to perform that task very well, and I don't have to swap modules constantly. Having sold both my Python and Anaconda, I'm down to an iEagle, iCourier, FDL, FAS, FGS, iClipper, and DBX.

What I'm looking for is a ship that can carry A LOT of cargo for CG's but isn't going to cost me 100+ million to outfit for said role. Right now, the Imperial Clipper that I have I use for that purpose, but I only move about 148 tons at a time in it. And I'd rather remove it from this CG role and start moving more freight if possible. The Type 9's 500+ tonnes is very appealing and has me drooling. The price tag is a little steep and will cut into my desire to A rate my new Gunship, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make as I assume with the Type 9, I wouldn't have a hard time getting into the top 10% (I figure if I'm consistently getting in the top 25% in the clipper, then more than tripling my cargo haul should make hitting the top 10% attainable.) I know the T9 doesn't turn great, lousy jump, but I'm not seeking a big jump range since. Thoughts?

If you want the feeling of driving a real space truck look no further. Once you master handling it though it is a joy.

It's not too costly to outfit since there's not that much point in A rating everything apart form FSD (imo 7D thrusters are the best choice, 7A's don't make enough of a difference)

Even better, as of the release of beyond (probably March) it gains an extra class 8 slot giving it and extra 256t of hauling!

The Type-9 just got a huge buff in beta! Once Beyond Q1 hits the live servers the Type-9's hull mass has been decreased (I think to 850 tons) and they added another class-8 slot (that's 256 tons more cargo). For space haulage only the Cutter is better, but the Cutter is much more expensive and requires a rank grind. I think you are going to see a huge surge of interest in the Type-9 once this new release goes live. I can't wait to give the new version a try myself even though I have a Cutter.

My PP Workhorse Python trades 272 tons and jumps 27LY Laiden, so I would recommend that if you want something that doesnt drive like a space dump truck. I use the T-9 for mining only

The Conda in order to get the mad jumps out of it you need to engineer the snot out of it and down grading modules well below what you think is possible. My exploraconda runs on a engineered 5D power plant, 5D distributor engineered for engine boost otherwise it didnt carry the capacity. Thrusters are only 6D. I only carry lightweight pulse weapons on the large and huge hard points. I have all scanners, SRV, and AFMU

Mine jumps 64LY unlaiden. My FSD roll is 54.4% got it on my 4th roll.

Great thing is with all the smaller modules. The rebuy on it is only 7 mil.

For OP's stated goal of < 100MM CG hauler, the basic Type 9 "Shielded Trader" configuration costs 98MM to haul 500T, less if you buy in Li Yong Rui space with the 15% discount.

This basic model should serve OK for CG PvE; for PP I have mine configured for 456T cargo with class 6 shield, class 3 scoop, and docking computer, and a few other upgrades pushing its cost over 100MM.

It jumps a paltry 13ly laden, but with engineering you'll get 19ly which isn't so bad considering it carries a lot so you don't have to make so many trips.

If you don't want to spend as much, the Type 7 is fine too. It also doesn't handle like a space dump truck (more like a space delivery truck) and for most CG's you'll probably load up at large pads anyway. In trade fit, my Type 7 usually has 272T with class 5 shield, a smidge less if I install a fuel scoop.

Since Python can get away with a class 3 shield it can carry approximately the same amount as Type 7 with similar speed and range (and land on medium pads if necessary), but at about 3x the price. The Python is obviously a bit more agile and has more upgrade potential since it's a multirole ship, but for the mentioned objective of CG/bulk trade duty, they're not so different.

For a typical trade CG you might need to deliver something like 1400T for top 50% and 2800T (these numbers may not be quite right). Given that assumption...

50% @1400T
Type 7 or Python: 5-6 runs
Type 9: 3 runs
Buffed Type 9: 2 runs

25% @2800T
Type 7 or Python: 10-11 runs
Type 9: 6 runs
Buffed Type 9: 4 runs

I would assume that once the buffed type 9 is available there will be many more CG haulers using it so the higher reward tiers might become harder to reach without one. I imagine the top tiers are already probably dominated by Imperial Cutters.

Pulled the trigger and glad I did. I had down classed a few of the modules on the Annie so they were transferable over to the T9. They were also engineered, so that worked out nicely. I put my 6A engineered FSD on the T9 and have 21ly jump. Managed to A rate it for next to nothing.

I'm glad you did! I want to at least fly all of the ships. So I picked up a T-9 one day just to say I did it and.... whoosh. I was in love. Like you, I have a specific tool for each specific job. But the jobs I find myself drifting toward are the hauling jobs I can do in Buffalo Gal. I just love that ship.

I was worried she would be too expensive for you. You mentioned not spending a lot and once you kit it out it can get pretty expensive. I'm hovering about 125m currently on mine. And when I put in a fighter ship and military hull I am up at about the 200m range. But I usually fly with her stripped down for cargo and that keeps my rebuy at about 7m ish.

You mentioned 21. That's fully laden, right? I say it like that because I never fly her any other way. I'm always going someplace and that place is always going to want to buy something. So I find something to stick in the hold for every flight.

Not sure if that's fully laden, probably not, but since mine's a CG , I'm not too concerned with the jump. I'm happy with it. Just wished this mining CG would end so I could start using her!

I've read in another thread that the T9 will get a buff and a new C8 slot?! Is this true?

I love my T9, the 'space-trucking-feeling' is great.

I have my T-9 A rated plus fully tuned dirty drives, tuned thrusters and other things. Jump range now is around 25 to 27lys unloaded and about 23lys loaded with cargo at 688 tons. Love my T-9 and plan on engineering it the rest of the way on drive/ thrusters. She no longer flies like a brick. Have been interdicted over 15 times since mods and have yet to loose. Always able to out fly ann interdiction. Just way to easy to do. sure wish I knew what happened to the folks that try. To funny!!

That's interesting, the T-10 gives about 35 lyrs unladen with an exploration build with the FSD engineered to the max.
