Is their currently any way to get rid of a Dormant bounty?

Thing is see...

Fine = they're angry at you and want payment = something you can pay off.
Bounty = they're rather miffed with you and put a price on your head = they want you dead.
Dormant Bounty = they still want you dead, but have more important things to worry about, so you're a cold case unless someone or something reminds them by a scan, being naughty again etc.. Then they look and you're public enemy number 9,643,201 again.

Are you sure it's gone. I thought that dormant bounties don't get removed unless you get them reactivated before you suicide.

All fines, bounties and dormant bounties from a faction are added to your rebuy when you respawn at one of their facilities.

I'm pretty sure I got rid of one by getting in my Sidewinder (Ensign Red Shirt), flying back to the system, letting one of their security guys scan me, it became active, they shot me and killed me (I had already docked at the station so respawned there), paid the pittance of a fine and went home.

I'm the OP: I did solve this by landing at a station in a system controlled by the faction I had the bounty from. Then getting destroyed for hanging out too long in the docking bay. I think the main point is that you must respawn in a station controlled by the faction that wants you. The truth is I didn't post because I was afraid that if it became public knowledge the devs would plug this loophole.

They know about it, but it seems that they want to leave it for guys like you. They're changing it so that it won't be so advantageous to use it to remove bounties from killing other commanders. If they had a problem with it, they'd fix it for bounties from NPCs too.

Fines and Active Bounties on your head can be paid at stations in low security systems. One must find the station using the map that has a Broker's Network listed on it, it's near the bottom of services rendered. One doesn't have to wait until timer runs out or go to original issuing system. The new policy when performing the tradional "Suicide with a Sidewinder" doesn't pay off Active Bounties, it changes them to Dormant Bounties which cannot be paid off anywhere, period. As it use to be available, using the Sucide Winder glitch.

Dormant Bounties can not be seen by anyone including the use of a KWS. That said, if scanned by any authorized pesonal in the system it was originaly issued as bounty or an unpaid fine turned to bounty; It will be reactivated as a Bounty. And thus the process starts over again. That said, a bounty can be paid in any low security system at a station which has a Broker Network, using you map, if available, it will be listed near the bottom of planets discription. IF not paid, and one avoids the system, it will convert to a Dormant and thus unpayable. ONLY active bounties and fines can be paid. DORMANT BOUNTIES CANNOT BE PAID. At the end of their timer, the evolve into a legacy fine. Which again can be paid off at the aforementioned Broker Network or upon death. There is a 25% fee added to the payment owed when paying off any fine, which includes legacy and or active bounty.

Under the new system, DORMANT BOUNTIES can not be paid and have to run their course thus becoming a legacy fine when timer runs out. There is no current place to check on one's legacy fines owed unless you go to a Broker's Network located at stations having an INTERSTELLE FACTOR which are all located in any low security system. But one must find them using blind luck or the system map. It will be listed near the bottom of the planets discription if its available or not. OR upon ones destuction regardless of how it happens.

The Suicide Winder glitch which used to payoff DORMANT BOUNTIES no longer does. Having a bounty now and getting destroyed convert the bounty to a DORMANT BOUNTY with a new timer set to what ever the original was. THUS if one has a DORMANT BOUNTY, though it can't be seen by anyone else, it can and will become active if scanned by any authorized personal such as station or security while in the system originally issued, NO WHERE ELSE, even if one uses a KWS, it will not show up. THUS forcing one to avoid the system until timer runs out or causing one's butt to pucker everytime there near a station or cop in such system. Because, if scanned, it reactivates and the timer and process starts all over again.

The Suicide Winder glitch hasn't been fixed entirely, it's been modified.

An interesting post, as it has suddenly become directly relevant to me delivering to the CG at Khun. I shall just have to adopt scan-avoidance tactics around the outpost when delivering. Thanks for the info.

No one has explained why shooting someone that clearly said "Wanted" with the name of the systems controlling faction below it would give me a bounty.

Noone explained it because it doesnt happen unless you encountered a bug.

On that note...

I was/am operating out of Obsidian Orbital.
I took a mission from The Ant-Hill Mob to massacre 32 pirates in Maia.

Thing is, I noticed that a lot of the pirates (ones tagged AS "mission targets") were from The Ant-Hill Mob.
So, I start killing them and, sure enough, after a little while I get a message saying "As a result of your recent actions your reputation with The Ant Hill Mob has been reduced to friendly"
By the time I'd completed the mission, given to me by The Ant Hill Mob, and killed a bunch of Ant Hill Mob pirates, my rep' had been reduced to "Cordial".

They really need to figure out whether they want me to kill pirates or not. :p

Thank you! This was exactly what I needed to clear a dormant bounty. I took a Sidewinder to the angry base and got past security to make the landing. I then went back out, requested a new landing, and flew around until security scanned me and attacked. Once I was destroyed and went thru rebuy, the dormant bounty was erased. Onward!
