Newcomer / Intro Is there a future with this game?

A few years back during Windows 7 I had similar issues with a particular MB and well known memory brand. They were all solved by switching to Kingston. I know prices are stupid at the moment but all I can tell you is every Kingston memory module I've used in various machines have for me been totally rock solid with zero compatibility or software issues.

People buy RAM that isn't made by Kingston? There ya go ....

Playing since late 2015 and having a lot of fun it is the best space game for me. Have very little stability issues most of them at my end. FDEV has come a long way and still more ahead, there is so much to do I need more game time. Awesome "VR" game to.

...I can't take the crash, softboot, relog, crash, hope for the crash report to come up, relog, freeze, crash, exit, delete cache files, relog, crash, a bit of exaggeration here but you get the point....

Here's the system info from the OP's profile page:

i7 5820K @ 4.4 ghz. GTX 980 ti sc. 16gb ddr3. Corsair obsidian 900d. 500gig m2 ssd. 1t ssd. 3t hdd. Soundblaster z. Benq 27". 1kw brick.

I don't see a problem here if all is working. My 5 year old Windows 7 with a i7, GTX 680 runs ED just fine using about 10Gb of memory for ED, the Forum and whatever else in the background on two monitors. If Crash To Desktop and Blue Screen of Death is occurring I'd pull the memory modules then insert and test each one. This happened to me long ago finding a bad memory module. I'd also test the graphics card memory. After that the SSD drive although bad drives can prevent the OS from starting so not likely.

For the Internet I'd run Speedtest to see if you are getting what you are paying for.

Are there issues with your Windows operating system? Is your computer security software setup to like ED? Does your Internet Service Provider add additional protection? Do you have issues with other memory intensive applications/games?

If all is OK I might then consider a Frontier server issue. I'd ask around with other ED players in your area to see if they have issues. Easy to do. I asked on my Facebook page and made lots of ED friends.

If you are playing on an Xbox then all the above doesn't apply and you have my condolences. Per the support threads it seems they have a lot of issues.
So far my PS4 ED account is OK.

Hope these suggestions help.

... In addition (since the memory issue has been addressed) I wonder just how many processes are running. A habit I have from flight-sim days is paring-back processes, whilst still keeping functions I want available. For example, at the moment I have 46 processes active which includes security applications - running Firefox adds 6 (yeah, that bothered me at first) - so assuming I have EDDiscovery and Firefox open whilst playing the game (2 processes) that gives a total of 55. If I wanted, I could pare that back further but it is convenient the way it is.

So that is on W7pro - I wonder how much stuff the OP has running and which OS is being used?

Yes, I did look into the memory issue and I did find an issue with memory test. After consulting with manufacturer there is no issue but instead an issue with win10pro memory testing software with specific board and memory type, thank you again for the help with that question about hardware. After giving all machine specs to FD through ticket their conclusion was a known cache issue with 3.0 update, but nothing else was said nor is there anything said in known issues via bug report forums.
As far as all other posts I would like to thank you guys for info with stability feedback from your end.
Hardware is considered fine and even op as per FD's feedback with ticket and as far as machine as I said in original post everything has ran perfectly until 3.0, even other titles still run solid.
It is good to hear that the attraction is still bringing new players in so sorry for any confusion but I was hoping that anyone had any good news concerning time line with updates or any update information at all due to the silence.

Thank you again Mistohise, your feedback did help with a number of tests thus I feel more comfortable with machines performance and health.

Not sure if your memory problem is solved by that... Of course the manufacturer says that there is no technical defect with your memory but that doesn't mean it's compatible to your mainboard. There are usually lists provided by the mainboard manufacturer listing all compatible modules, if your memory is not on it and you get errors using a stress test, chances are very high that this is the source of your problems.

Hello Commanders,
I was kind of hoping that some of you can give some good news, mainly due to the almost complete silence of information.
3 years and with a river of tears this title has been the best game I have ever played, second to the king of games being "Xcom Apocalypse", God I miss Microprose. So from vanilla to now this game has gone from perfect to a serious train wreck. It feels like we have gone back to early access. I guess one could only say this knowing what it started as, but anyways can any of you techy or otherwise well informed guys please yell if there is any hope that FD can recover this game?
The instability is completely out of control and it has been months with no improvement and FD doesn't seem to be saying much.
I can't take the crash, softboot, relog, crash, hope for the crash report to come up, relog, freeze, crash, exit, delete cache files, relog, crash, a bit of exaggeration here but you get the point so don't sugar coat it, just flat out, is there any REAL plans for a fix anytime soon or is it, truly heartbreaking, time to find a new game?

God I can't believe I just said that, so please throw some kind of good news, please....

Say whatever you want, but when you face constant tech problems its clearly on your end. You may want to check with support.

Respectfully, that manufacturer is feeding you some REDACTED. If the memory is returning errors during a test, it will also return errors when in use. You need to get it replaced. If the board is the problem then get that replaced.

Just because they consider it to be within tolerances doesn't mean you have to tolerate it.

As I said above, it's absolutely possible that the memory is fine but just incompatible to the mainboard. Even when all specifications are met it doesn't mean that it runs flawless. Mainboard manufacturers provide lists for tested modules and it's always best to go with the memory that is recommended.
