Newcomer / Intro Is there a safe place to start playing?

I recommend Eravate, you can trade between stations without hyperspace at all, to begin with that saves you time, so you make credits/upgrade ship faster. This is because there are decent sized industrial and agricultural bases in the same system. No doubt other systems have this feature as well.

You do get a few NPC interdictions, but I've never been seriously damaged - full power to engines, boost away in a straight line and FSD ASAP, works most of the time for NPCs.

Have the starter systems changed since I was last there?

I started playing on the launch date of 16/12/14 and despite the common advice now being for new starters to get away from the starter systems asap this isn't what I did at the time. I didn't depart to see the rest of inhabited space until after the new year, so that's a good few weeks in which I never traveled any further than the likes of Apoyota and Yakabugai. I was never attacked by another CMDR at all in this time, I rarely even encountered them, and without any practice really required I was never successfully interdicted by an NPC.

It does seem like the experience of new starters these days is to leave Trevithick Dock and immediately get set upon by some miscreant who gets their kicks out of it... I feel like heading over there in my Cobra and kicking some bottom. Just watch them in supercruise, wait until someone interdicts a sidewinder and then drop into the low-energy wake they leave.

Or if you want to see only friendly players, join our PVE group ! ;) We are now 4300, we have our own forum : http://elitepve.com/ , and organized coop teams inside the group.
If you want some PvP it's allowed in conflict zones only, so you have the best of both worlds.

i keep getting interdicted in solo - i can usually out run them by following the vector.
an NPC blew me up last night so i lost my ship, but the replacement sidewinder didnt cost me anything to replace and i didnt lose any credits. i didnt have any add ons to the ship so it was no biggie.

if in solo or open and a pirate targets you will they be able to take your credits and cargo?

Not your credits as there is no way (yet) to transfer credits to another player... they can take your cargo though, either if they use a limpet to break open your cargo hatch, or if they threaten you into releasing your cargo willingly.

thanks - man i was so mad last night. played for 3 hours. tried to run 2 slaves to a system like 24 jumps away. i refueled twice, but the 3rd time i mistakenly ran out of fuel in a system with no stations and since i was out of gas i was just cruising at normal speeds. i had to google my options and realized death was eminent...hit that self destruct

then i get my sidewinder back and have another cargo mission that was only 7 jumps away....i stopped to refuel in the system prior just to be safe and some npc interdicts me and i could not get away and he blew me up..

3 hours, 2 ships and no credits later i decided to call it a night. knowledge is my reward. cant wait to play tonight

That's the true spirit to learn the game, don't let it bather you the setbacks it happens to everyone the trick is to learn for ones experience so you don't repeat your mistakes... ;)

Here have +1 rep too, to highten your spirits even further Cmdr.... :D

My opinion is, that they should have at least SOME systems in game where NPC interdictions just don't occur. Like the core systems of the Federation (Ross 154, Barnards Star, Sol, Alpha Centauri...), the Empire (Cemiess, Vequess, Facece, Achenar...) and the Alliance (Gateway, Alioth...), for instance.

Security level in those systems is just too high for NPC piracy to be feasible. So in solo mode, they should be safe. As it stands right now, interdictions may occur in those systems, but system security vessels will react very quickly if you turn "report crimes against me" on in your right HUD panel.

Very much this. It makes the game too 'gamey' when the security level in a system seems to have no effect on interdictions. In the original games you avoided an 'Anarchy' for a reason (or went in guns blazing for the rep and sweats). These things need to mean something in ED too.
