Is there a Setup guide for Quest 2?

I have tried to get this thing going with no luck, so before I cause any damage Im asking
Is there a setup guide? Step by step 'For Dummies' version preferred. I dont think Im a computer moron, but that may be the problem....
I have the Quest2 and link cable
Ryzen 5 3600
32GB Mem
RTX 3060

Some helpful information you could provide: what version of Elite are you using?

Stand-alone launcher, Steam, Oculus, or Epic?

Also, have you managed to Link to your computer or are you needing that info as well?

I have been running thru steam on the desktop
I sort of have the quest linked, but the computer only 'sees' it if I plug it in then turn it on. If I unplug the quest I need to power it down, plug it in then power it on for the computer to see it
I have D/L Steam VR but it doesn't 'see' the headset

I have searched here and online, Ive seen some info but I feel there is/are some 'basic' steps that are skipped over or assumed to be known such as "Download SteamVR", yet it doesn't say if on the PC or the Headset, or both....This is why I was looking for a A->Z step by step version

Have you got the Oculus desktop software installed? My sequence of actions:
  • Start up the Oculus program on my desktop
  • Switch on my Quest 2
  • Plug in the Link cable
  • Accept the prompt in the Quest 2 headset to allow my PC to access its files
  • In the Quest 2 menu, select Link (it should be visible in the quick options menu)
  • You should now be seeing the desktop Oculus interface
  • Start up the Frontier Launcher
  • Launch Elite
You’ll need to have selected “other sources” in the Oculus desktop software and also selected “HMD headphones” in Elite’s 3D graphics settings (if you’re playing Odyssey the setting should stick right away, but with Horizons a program restart will be needed). There may be some other “first time” actions you need to take when initially connecting Link but these are explained in the headset.

Seeing as you’re using Steam then you’ll need SteamVR running and I’m afraid I’m not too sure what exact steps you need to take with Elite regarding that - but with other SteamVR games all I’ve had to do is have SteamVR running in the background as well as Oculus.

Could not get it to work with the cable, but was able to get in game via the air link

Took the ship up and around the carrier abit, felt abit of motion sickness, fought with the keyboard (hunt and peck guy)

It will be a process, but seems it will be well worth it

I’m glad you managed to finally get in game - and you’re right, it will be well worth getting your VR legs 😁

Short sessions over a week or so, always quitting out if you feel any sort of sickness. Don’t forget about the VR helpers in the Options menu - the “maintain vehicle horizon” was a very important one for me when starting in the SRV.

Although it may sound a bit daft - I found that “leaning into” motions helped fool my brain a little bit, anticipating what the real-life feel would be.

Also, out of interest, what Link cable are you using? The cable that comes with the Quest 2 is a charger cable only, so I purchased an Anker brand USB cable which has served me well:

KIWI Is the one I got, was mentioned in a few videos and articles on Quest 2 and games. Didn't hear any neg comments on it
Probably not a cable issue, more likely operator error

😁 Well it might be worth playing with if you want to extend the headset’s battery - with the cable attached I get just a few percent loss on the meter after an hour’s play, compared to about 40% if I’m using AirLink.

If you have the Oculus desktop software running before connecting the Quest, the Link option should just appear in the Quick Options section of the menu bar (click the section of the bar that has the battery icon).

Hope you have fun in Virtual, and (shameless plug) if you could spare a few moments to Confirm/Vote on some of the VR bugs linked in my sig, it’d be much appreciated 👍

Will try and get the cable to work, I seem to have abit of lag with the 'air link'

Also trying to dial in all the voice pack and VA stuff
