Is there a trick to getting those tip-off messages?

All I know about tip-offs is that they are rare; there is no consistent method by which I'm aware of to generate one - so they might as well be completely random; and that I've screenshotted & documented each one I've gotten & done, just-in-case. Makes it easier to do them later on my own time, and also they are just *that rare*.

'Course, that view may change if Dominic feels like shining a little light on the issue for us...*cough cough*.

FWIW, I spent all last night in the Varati system, doing missions for Canonn and raising my rep' from cordial to, erm, whatever is just before allied, and I haven't seen a single tip-off despite remaining in-system and completing 20-odd missions over a period of about 3 hours.

Assuming everything else about Varati allows for tip-offs, that would suggest it's not just time spent in a system that generates them.

Last time I was getting heaps of tip-offs, it was when I was grinding Fehu for my Cutter
In that scenario I'd already hit allied status and carried on farming (literally) hundreds of missions one after the other and pretty-much every time I undocked from the station I'd get a tip-off.

I just want to know why I haven't been getting them. I have a working theory (I don't grind missions and hardly even stack them) but it would be nice to get some confirmation.

Ive been in the Pleiades Sector since a couple of days before 2.4. Currently allied with most of the fed/imp factions around town & been spamming cash charity missions (just stopped off at The Indra and it had maybe 10 to 20 donations available each for feds, imps & alliance) and have had two mysterious stranger offers in the last week.

I suspect you all are right. I work one system area only and get the Tip-Off missions all the time.

This tool will make finding the LZ-coordinates faster and with more confidence.
I would not do these missions if not for this tool. Enter the specified Lat / Lon and it tells you which heading to take, exactly which heading.

Hi there,

I've sprinked some rep to people who I noticed had pertinent comments...

And I'll address the below:

That wasn't tip off messages.

You do not need to be at 100% rep with any factions.

I could tell you what spawns tip offs, but it's really not that interesting...

Thanks,
Dom

Now i really want to know, that way i could maybe curb them from coming my way... most of the time i have no idea who the faction is, and it doesnt list what superpower affialiate they are, they dont say how much rep, they never seem to be close enough or enough money for me to interupt my current plans.

Yes ED Bearing is useful of you don't want to installing something.

Just for the record I am hammering Rank at the moment in a Beluga in a station which is on fire. This take between 14-20 economy passenger missions in 1 rescue & I focus on rep+++ missions. Once you get a better rep with the factions in the station, tip off's seem to appear from time to time. I currently have 6 in my inbox.
