All my notes were on slopey tool and I forgot to back up my logs before rigging up my new machine. I was hoping to fly back to my discovered by and land on some of my moons.

thanks... this is what i feared. that is a shame, it means my early exploration trips where i got my name on a bunch of systems are now lost then

I took to screenprinting everytime I get one.
What helps me is that I keep a written ledger of my waypoints I've used for exploring. It doesn't help me remember what exactly I've explored or where, but it does record my route, and in such a way that I'm not reliant upon the game being stable for the reference to be handy. I also run two monitors so it's useful to me to open up a physical notepad and look up something I need instead of tabbing out and having the game window minimize as it does every time.
Also the game crashes randomly. When it does, I lose my course information. It is very useful to be able to put in the same waypoint I already went to the trouble of finding without having to sift through the galaxy map again.
It could be used to retrace my steps and find worlds I've already been to and discovered too.

A year ago they offered to check the DB and give a list of all discovered bodies +cmdr names. Could be fun if they did it again!
They should make stars with system data filterable on the system map. Doesn't seem like too much trouble - a single simple query can do it (in the commonly used sql at least) select * from dbnameofexploredsystems where discoveredplayer = 'playername'.

I'd certainly like this options - filter by known system info and filter by first discovery of a body in a system.

Do you not have the ED4.db file available from the previous machine? It'll be in the BPC directory - just copy it over.
(also note you can export the list from the BPC).

If you use Inara, if future you could enable verbose logging and upload your flight log files for later reference. I find its a nice routine to do after a lengthy session

My hope is that one day we will get an ED Players Web page that FD provide, that lets us log in and view whatever we want about our commander, including all exploration data.

And how do you back that up in case it gets lost?I use that good ol' trusted method, a pen and a notepad
