Is there any advantage to owning a boxed copy of the game?

I'd just like to add that it would be to your advantage to get the boxed game as it will come with a map of the known galaxy. So you know where you are and you know where you are going - which sort of helps if you think about it.

woof woof! - That's my other dog impression.

Officers with Maps... that's all I'll say.... ;)

It could be a nice investment - especially since it won't be mass produced like the boxed versions of the older games.

Talking of which, just look at these on ebay:

CD32 Version of Frontier going for £150

BBC version of Elite going for £60

I think they're massively overpriced though :D

shame that the foldout ship id isnt there , the last bbc elite (admitidly) disc virsion i saw (that was complete) went for over £100 (that was when i stopped looking)

I started with the 90 boxed set. This is going to be the game of the century and I want something to remember it by.

When my grandchildren are playing Elite 5 they will see the box on my shelf and I can reminisce about the original and drive my lads crazy again because the grand kids are bound to ask, "Did Grandpa really play Elite Dangerous? Was he Elite?" Much kudos for the silver surfer.

the only advantage I can see to owning a boxed copy of Elite is the same difference as having a digital copy of a film and having the boxed copy of a film.

it all boils down to if you like having a box or not.

Agreed. If you take inflation into account, any profit you make keeping something in the hope it appreciates in value is neglible. It's as Mobius says, do you want a box or not? Boxes cost more to make so you pay more.

Cheers,

Drew.

Which is better, a book or an ebook?

I prefer a physical object that gives me some form of tactile sensation when i use it. I do admit that it's very handy to carry 100+ books on one device, which is significantly smaller that said books.
Maybe i'm just old.

I'm taking the box, because and for no other real reason, i like the idea of owning a copy.

No that's complete with the "original" ship chart......disc version! I don't know these newbies

the original ship chart was an A4 fold out (3 section) jobber with the ships filling the page as just white lines (as in the game), without the pink. another note is that (like in the kickstart pack dvd) the game gave a competition code with the first 1000(?) getting a T-shirt. they were all gone before i got there

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
In the desolately empty biscuit tin of hope, perched precariously atop the dusty and perpetually inaccessible cupboard of despair.

A bit obvious tbh... :D

Glad I'm getting the box too, then! :)

Although it's a personal choice, I'd rather have a boxed version. :D

Same. Boxed version ALWAYS for me. I want the physical box/manual/chart etc. I yearn for the old days where we got awesome documentation and it was a real experience.

Plus I want to put Elite Dangerous next to all my other boxed copies (see my sig).

I will also be buying Elite Dangerous retail boxes locally and imports as well. :)

I went for the Premium Boxed Edtion.

I just had to get the Premium Box. I just has to be good to own and will share a place with my other acquisitions of the earlier versions on the shelf.

Thank Goodness for the Thermomix!

You guys should all be feeling really guilty.

You talked me into a "Premium Boxed Edition of Elite: Dangerous" So I backed for 105 pounds. Ow.

And then my wife walked in just as I hit "process" in paypal.

THANKS GUYS. Fortunately I bought her a Thermomix the other month, so thanks Frontier Developments for making ED, and thanks to the Thermomix for getting me off the hook. ;)

Hope it made you all smile.

Is there any advantage to owning a boxed copy of the game?

Yes I would get the box version if you can, as said above, it's an invesment and something to cherish for all time.

I remember owning the original Elite box, its was very thick, black, and the manual was so large that the box lid never quite fit properly.
