Is there any female playing this game?

Hello everyone,

I have been playing this game for a while and I did not find any commander who has a girl/woman name (When I find someone...). So I do not know if there are no girls around here or if the girls have a male name.

Would be great to hear that girls play this game too!

There are absolutely women who play the game, but that doesn't mean you'll see particularly 'female' rather than 'male' names.

Would hope so! Where I am though Iv not seen that many commanders, men/women or other though... will keep my eyes open

Most of the ones with girls names are guys from what I can gather from my time online gaming. Virtual crossdressers. :)

I think theres 1 or 2 girls on the forums, judging by some photos, so I think its 100% likely girls will play this game. Not as many as the sims or something, but yeah a few.

What does it matter if someone's male or female.

You get to interact with their text on the forums, or their ship in game. It's the same whether someone is male or female.

Would be weird to be the only woman playing this game.

If I were female I'd probably use a male name just to avoid unwanted attention from guys. There's no question that it happens a lot. I don't actually get much attention even though I play with female names exclusively, but my forum persona helps to deter most guys I think. :D

Based on my video playback stats (which of course cannot be relied upon 100% either), the female population in Elite is around 2%. It's probably a bit higher than that in reality, but still way down than in say, a typical MMO.

A lot of times women don't want to be known as women on forums and video games, because as disappointing as it is to the gamer community, they tend to get ridiculed for it. I can only hope the E: D community is better than this.

That said, I am female myself, but my name tends to make me seem 'male,' and I do tend to be one of the boys.

That holds on an individual basis, but groups, communities. player bases have very different dynamics if on sex or the other is not represented or is massively under-represented. So the question is relevant, even if you never know whether individuals are male or female.

Yes, you are right. It's very disapointing that a lot of communities have these problems yet :(

Check out twitch.tv. Plenty girls who even stream game.

My ED videos get about 7% female in the stats. I assume the % might be higher if Google actually forced people to answer the question, which it doesn't.
