Is there any point upgrading the Manticore Executioner to Level 5?

4 upgrade slots are better than 3

You're also assuming the high intensity NPCs wear G5 doms with resistance mod. They might well be but if they aren't then maybe that extra damage is necessary.

But anyway, if not... 4 upgrade slots. Not necessary, but definitely worth it for a silenced weapon.

Overkilling the humans is a waste, but in a Maverick the Executioner is my only rifle, so I need to occasionally shoot at drones too. Unupgraded it does not do great, especially against the bigguns, so more damage is definitely welcome in those scenarios.

I'd be leery of the range mod, since reports so far are that it doesn't increase the projectile speed. The slow-ass shot is what's more likely to make you miss than anything being out of range.

Sounds fun. I just bought myself one :).
I got it, upgraded it, and put a silencer on it. It's a gorgeous little silent pistol, like a one-handed executioner.
I really want the (upgraded) scope and range mods on my executioner to see how much of a difference it will make.
I'm curious about what the scope will be like, but I don't really use the rifle at extreme ranges, because as Valatar has pointed out, by the time you've FedExed the plasma ball to the mailing address of the guy you can see through the scope, he's gone for his dinner.

On the bright side, at least the bad guys don't have instakill hitscan weapons either.

I find that setup and angle are EXTREMELY important in the use of the rifle at long ranges.
No oblique angles. Straight shots whenever possible. It might just be me but the plasma seems to rise a bit along it's flight so I tend to aim center mass or slightly lower.
I've gotten pretty good at judging lead on moving targets too.
Patience is key. They all stop moving for a few moments at some point in their route.

Damage falloff works the same way with Personal Weapons a ship weapons. Upgrading your Executioner effectively boosts its kill range.

This is also why Range boost for the Intimidator and Tormentor are extremely valuable, both are high power weapons with rapid damage falloff. Just outside the Tormentor's ideal range, it will take 3 shots instead of 2 to kill rank 5 enemies. The shotgun is even more dramatic, as it also has to factor in spread. I've heard that installing the Scope and Hip Fire accuracy mod collapses the Intimidator's spread sufficiently that you can start one-shotting even level 5 enemies at around 10 meters out with the enhanced range mod fairly consistently.

Dun-dun Dun-dunnnn doo-doo-dooooo

That was sposed to be the James Bond music! :D

I've just got back from emptying a pirate site of pirates, using (almost exclusively) the Tormentor pistol (G3, silencer mod).
Sneaky sneaking around the base, one shot one kill, nice and close up, I'd disabled the turrets, alarms, and cleared out the power and hab blocks before anyone knew I was there.

When someone (a guard) did notice me (bad reconnaissance on my part), the executioner put him down quickly, and I even sneakily took out both of the skimmers while their bacs were turned.

I left with a load of loot including a power core, and almost no one knew I was there. 22 kills plus two skimmers.
No pitched gun battles, no aerial bombardment, and no alarms!

I think I could make sneaky-sneaking around bases a lucrative and enjoyable new carreer!

Does audio masking not work yet?

I was thinking of making the kinetic carbine into a totally silent weapon (Suppressed and Audio Masked) for stealth ops, as my Maverick suit is essentially a heist build (Backpack, Tool efficiency, Quiet Footsteps and Night Vision)

It's just not accessible yet, except if you get extremely lucky via premium availability.

Yarden Bond isn't unlocked by anyone due to smear campaigns.

Ah.

How does the suppressor work though, I'm kind of hoping it's not super OP or anything, more like MGS5 suppressor, where enemies are still aware they're being shot at, they just can't place the origin.

If they don't see it or it doesn't impact too close to them, it's silent. But it does alert them if it impacts near to them. This is me using an Executioner. If I hit them, they are dead so no way to react unless I miss. And I tested this once to be sure.

It works pretty much as you'd expect it to work. And it's very useful.

Guess I was lucky then :)
Had both mods pre-installed

But have to admit, I used it only once.

Yeh not the best weapon for those two mods :D Not going to do a whole lot with it without getting detected. Shame. Still a cool find though.

The problem with "silenced" weapons in Elite is that the game functions on the basis that we're all red dots on a radar, so sound isn't a thing when it comes to locational tracking. But it works as an alpha strike advantage. Largely needs to do suit damage though.

I prefer both my weapons to be silent so both of them will have both mods. It helps me to dictate the situation if I want to alert NPCs I know how to make noise. Apart from that, there is one type of mission in which your setup might not be enough - Covert assassination without causalities AKA only target dies.
I'd say you won't use much the Executionner indoors, so my take on mods, DMR version, is : Audio masking (obviously), Faster handling (quick swap with pistol), Improved Magazine (5 shots), Improved Reload speed (when you get a bunch of scavs, pretty useful). You can go full sniper by replacing Faster Handling and Improved Mag with Scope and Higher Effective Range but it's bound to testing.

I would sell it if it would be possible. Currently all my infiltration mission and up with a massacre. Guess no witnesses is the same as no survivors.

Given that there are two suppressor mods for pressurised and unpressurised environments, does that indirectly add more utility to the exterior atmosphere controls, as you can just mod a plasma weapon with the unpressurised version then vent the rooms before entering?

Pretty much the exact build I’m going for, except the one I found initially was a G3 with hipfire accuracy (was particularly helpful before I got faster handling given how long it takes to aim down scope with the thing by default). Already applied audio masking and faster handling, works like a charm. Think I’ll go with magazine size over reload speed so I can drop at least two enemies per mag.

Once I’ve done that I’ll be working on modding my tormentor. Only ever managed to find a G2 with no mods though so I have my work cut out for me.
