Is this a mining record?

So, there's two videos of a guy using mapped mining methods to achieve what he claims is "400 million per hour". However when you check the actual time he works out to 345-350m/hr.

So I set out to beat his 350m/hr shown in his videos. Unmapped.

Can anyone beat me? Has anyone? Is this a record? Are people going to cry in this thread about mining being an exploit?

After some putzing around and a little engineering, I present to you 360+ million per hour that COULD HAVE BEEN 380+ million/hr but I wasted time in a few places. I regularly exceed 300-320 million/hr but I do have a couple of particularly nice runs under my belt. Realistically, 350+ should be sustainable for multiple trips. You really have to count the sell and reload time, plus travel in both directions.

Claiming you made 400 million in 60 minutes because that's the total time you spent in the ring and selling only? That's bunk.

Regardless, this is 482 tons mined in 50 minutes, plus travel time. 9.64 tons per minute. Just under 63 minutes including buying limpets, a bit of chatting in system, and being slightly inefficient about my ship placement. I think I can break 10 tons/minute.

Feel free to fast forward through this of course.

Good luck on your attempt! I can't go an hour mining without nodding off at the keyboard.
Attempt succeeded already. As for falling asleep, if you are doing it right you don't stop at any given asteroid for more than 20-30 seconds lol.

Next goal is to crack 400 million/hr.

You can say that to basically anything. From buckyball racing to jump records, pvp achievments, GC top ten and so on.
Yeah, you're right you can.

Each to their own. I have my own playstyle in ED......while I may get some new idea's reading what other's do, I find it tedious & boring when other's want to 'beat someone's record' being faster, higher, longest jump, most credits earned/hr, most kills/hr:sleep:

I really didn't think that mine painite was a challenge, ... in a type 9 you can do it easy at the same time without getting warm

you should try to fill a load of 400 or 500 opals in less than an hour, lol ( I couldn´t, seems impossible ,but in the last image I took more than 400 mill in less than an hour, with a T-9 ,Cutter takes less time)

Best I've managed, with some degree of consistency, is just over 400 million credits in an hour and twenty minutes. That's timed from undocking, flying the several jumps to the Hot Spot, Super Cruising in of course, actually mining, then jumping however many hops it is to sell. I stop the clock once I've sold up.

While of course there is a degree of luck, I got a bit hooked on being as efficient as possible mining. So, while I'd not map anything, I'd attempt to fly into the same approximate area of the ring each time. I always had several asteroids tagged while I was still collecting fragments from the current one, so I'd always identified my next target - if there were any viable in range. I'd generally orientate my ship so returning Limpets had an efficient path to follow - though they can be screwy at times and prefer to fly up above the ship before flying underneath it, not much I could do about that lol.

While 1hr 20 mins was about as good as it got, door to door, I was typically under about an hour and thirty minutes - which was a manageable play session for me at the time. I since switched to a different set up. Previously, I was using the excellent Cutter for both mining and selling. However, as I fancied playing with another ship anyway, I converted the Cutter just for Cargo and jump range, while outfitting a Type 9. It still has 512 Cargo, like the Cutter had, but holds more Limpet Controllers so I can gather more quickly. Each asteroid takes less time to process now. I then jump to a neighbouring system (Painite system has no stations) where I park the Cutter, then jump to sell a little more efficiently. While I can now be more efficient, time-wise, I'm a little more relaxed when I mine.

Note: the biggest scupper for mining I've found have been weird instancing issues. Basically, I'd enter the ring in my normal location but there would be either very poor yields or simply NO Painite what so ever in any quantities. When this occurred I'd just leave the Ring and re-enter, and it was then I discovered that I wasn't where I'd entered the ring at all. One time I was the other side of the planet! I had entire evenings scuppered with the occurring time after time, but thankfully it hasn't happened recently.

Sorta a bit burnt out currently and my last mining session - though taking under 1hr 30 - felt like a bit of a drag. I'd already been out of the game for a couple of weeks due to the September Update issues. Might get back to mining soon, as it was an activity I found quite relaxing - except when experiencing bugs.

1:20 to 400m is exactly 300m/hr.

I was stuck at that rate for quite some time myself.

Got a video to go with that less than an hour claim? If that's true you're beating everyone on twitch and YouTube.

All of us are able to mine 400 million worth of painite in 60 minutes. It's the travel and sell time that cuts the actual rate down.

Inspiring video OP! After trying core mining with a Python for a while, time to get back to traditional mining with my T10 for a change! How many collectors do you use? I need to work on my positioning with the T10, i remember losing limpets quite often..

Its nice that these two methods of mining (core and old-style) are so different, variety keeps things interesting

3 collectors, 5 medium lasers.

the truth is that not, I thought the challenge was in opals, it is quite easy for everyone to undermine painita and I'm not going to make a one hour video to prove that.

I took those captures while I was having a conversation in this same forum (must be in some conversation) , in which I timed one hour, you can look in inara to see how worked in less 2 weeks(+6bill), I already quit mining, but once I almost reached the 1 billion with opals, in more than an hour, it is clear.

I don't feel stuck at this rate, I've no doubt I could spend less time actually mining. Like I said, I was doing that in my Cutter build, and now I have a T9 which is actually a fair bit quicker per-asteroid due to having more collectors - I currently field 14, which makes very short work of an asteroid. While the Cutter is of course faster between asteroids, that didn't really make a significant difference due to the Cutter taking much longer to slow down, whereas the T9 stops more quickly. Better brakes make you faster :)

Basically, with the T9 build, I feel I have a more leisurely time in the asteroid field, yet still manage 400m per, on average, about 1hr 30 min session. Actual time in the ring is usually just over an hour, travel time to get there and then back out to swap ships and sell can be 15 to 20 minutes depending on where the best (and not too distant) selling location is. Swapping to the Cutter to sell is certainly beneficial when there's a longer distance to the sell location, but likely a slight hindrance when it's closer. However, the Cutter is armed and fast, so it makes any hostile encounters less worrisome lol.

FYI: my T9 is nothing special, it's lightly engineered with a WEA focused PD, and it's fast, for a T9 lol, but it's unshielded. It's been shot up a few time as you'd imagine, but it's tough enough to survive a light skirmish and get away - it's not armed at all, just three C2 Mining lasers. Even with 14 active collectors, they cannot keep up with those 3x Mining beams, but it's close.

Edit: thought... I fly exclusively in a Private group and, when in this group, often notice that jumps between systems take longer. Perhaps going Solo could shave a few minutes off, especially when multiple jump are required... It can be fun to META, but I'm more in it to chill now lol.

None of those logs show 1 hour or less between entries. The one that's 919m is over 24 hours after the previous entry.

You're not proving anything and frankly all you're doing is making borderline inflammatory claims.

Or did you think I wouldn't notice the fact that those entries are on separate days?

Besides. This is about credits/hr not mining. It just so happens this is the fastest rate in game currently that im aware of.
