Is this a rip off? Or is this Frontier first encounters all over again?

I'm confused. I wasn't able to pledge during the kickstarter but, was easily kept up to date through the news letter and the hundreds of articles all over the internet. Finally, when I could afford it and could no longer it, I bought into the premium beta.

$150 isn't chump change for a game in development or even a finished game. However as a responsible adult (questionable) I knew full well that the donation didn't grant me any stake or vested interest in the company. It did give me a personal interest but FD was in no uncertain terms obligated to keep me informed of my investment, certainly it didn't give me a shareholder position. That's not how it works.

Too many people feel since they pledged to a kickstarter somehow they are a shareholder and the people receiving the funds are working for them. Inform yourself before you part with your money and you won't be dissapointed.

I regularly give those less fortunate than myself money but, I don't expect a report on how and why they spent the money or send them angry letters because they didn't send a detailed spreadsheet of where the money went.

Crowd funding is a donation not a stock purchase and like giving charity you hope it's used for what you believe is right and good. You give your money and hope and if your like me you visit (when you can) and see how it's going.

I really wish people would stop necro'ing dead threads...

It's perfectly okay. The OP necro'd his own thread, answering something after a ten-week gap. Just a short conversational pause.

By the way, take note. You are having a discussion now about what clothing braben wears when he makes his videos. Really? Is what he wears during comms videos really got anything to do with the forum topic (Elite Dangerous General)?

The discussion on clothing is key evidence that FD is, in fact, communicating with its customers. As well as frequent newsletter updates, videos, twitch streams, trade-show booths, developer contributions to forum discussions and direct clarification of the expected final release date, you also get to see important stylistic input from FD upper management.

Point of fact, you can tell a lot about a man's character from their choice of woolly jumper. Too thin, and it could hint at a short attention span, inability to receive constructive criticism, and also a tendency to be cold and miserable while waiting at a bus stop in winter. Too thick, and they might be hard to approach, set in their ways, and possibly have issues with empathising with other people... particularly cold people in thin jumpers waiting at bus stops in winter.

Now that's out of the way...

- Newsletter #27 was released on June 14, following on from Newsletter #26 on June 9.

- The team has flagged an update coming this week regarding the expected date for next Beta version to testers.

- David Braben indicated last week that FD is aiming to release Elite: Dangerous at the end of 2014.
