Is this community actually this small minded?

You want a game to be as deep and complex as possible, but then you vote against groups? I don't understand, this seems like the opposite of progress, forcefully keeping the gameplay smallscale and insignificant.

You want to play with friends, play with likeminded people, work towards a higher purpose than just your own little self. That's where a game like this really starts to shine. How could you possibly vote against this?

Is this community just filled with asocial people who just want to play by themselves? Isn't that what solo is for? If you don't have friends to play with that's fine, but why try to block that possibility of a much deeper experience from the rest of us.

Don't know what's scarier, that these people actually seem to be in the majority on these forums, or that the devs aren't actively reassuring us that group play will happen.

Isn't it you being small-minded by not allowing the possibility that groups/factions aren't what the majority want? :)

Oh, and not having groups is completely different to wanting to play solo...

Yes, it is this small-minded. At least the subset of players and posters who replied to those threads are that small-minded.

Might be because ED was originally developed as a single player game. Freelancer is old, people generally hate X3 Rebirth, and Star Citizen will probably be finished in 2025.
ED offers an immersive space sim experience and I would bet many players don't want to share that experience with anyone but themselves.

Fortunately for them, there is solo play. FD thought of everything.

There are a great many players who come here from EVE Online who want this game to be that game. Most of us here on the Elite: Dangerous forums do not want that. In many cases, those individuals have couched their wishes in requests for the kinds of player organizations you see in EVE Online.

The result of this is that this community has become rather distrustful of such requests, regardless of the intent.

Also, i think many players have other ideas about the things they would like to see implemented next, and we don't (and i do say we here, as I'm in this group) want to see development effort diverted to features we have little use for.

A forum will never show you the full range of the players that play a game. And before you begin asking or slagging of the users of a forum give them time to vote if they want to. I for one didn't vote on any of the two links you posted as that side of the game has no interest at this time for me. I prefer to go out into the dark as an explorer and you will find me over 11000ly from Sol at the moment and with some luck will go further tonight. I know you want to see the game progress but you won't make friends by attacking the forum users. Few people take part in polls so you never get a true picture of anything.

On a serious note, I'd love to see a poll on simply allowing clans/factions to form that have no influence whatsoever; simply a private chat channel, an in-game [CLAN] tag, and possibly the ability to see other members on the galaxy map.

That's the type of guild/clan support I suspect a lot of people would be perfectly fine with.

It is baffling and I've been here since the start and seen and heard it all.. the game could be epic but for the obsession with lone wolfing it all the time.

We'll no doubt hear the arguments again but it seems some don't quite get what online gaming is about these days. But no the community isn't filled with these types, I think many a person has simply given up making well balanced arguments in support of a great game only to be shot down by endless ad homs, and 'if you want EVE its that way ---->' comments

:(

Hey! Don't have a go at us, mate. This wasn't our idea. It's that silly fellow who doesn't have a clue how to make games. Dravid Bobbins, I think his name is.

You're thinking of Doris Raven, possibly?

Isn't that why there's a whole universe modelled?

If you want to be a loner in a far off star system I'm sure that is possible with the billion something systems.

I can't imagine why group play could possibly interfere with playing by yourself, if you absolutely insist on doing such a thing for whatever reason.

Ah. The majority in this forum has a different opinion than you. They must definately be small minded. Yes.

It's even worse than that. People who vote will often be those who have the most negative view on a position, not the most positive. And the forums only make up a miniscule proportion of those playing ED. There are nearly 500,000 users now (I think?) and you have a poll with 100 votes.

In perspective, we know what 100 people think! That's like going to my town, and asking all the people in one church what they think about the idea of having local communes set up. :)

"Lone wolfing" is part of the soul of Elite. It's you and your personal struggle against the unforgiving void.

Also, some of us have seen what "online gaming is about these days" and want something different for a change.

Oh look, another of these threads.

I don't want guilds or player owned <insert structures here>, and I couldn't care less if you believe it or not.

Oh, and I already do play with friends, when it suits us.
