I'm not sure about that, most people can keep it calm talking religion politics or whatever. There's a few who can't and flock to threads, but its not the subject matter that does it though. The same people can't keep it calm over the video game either.

Politics is a very hard thing to keep out of any discussion as it effects absolutely everything, so personally I think the ban was more to stop it cropping up and turning nasty in all sorts of random threads rather than the topic itself being a poop-magnet. Having a politics section would spill over into the rest of the forum so a flat ban makes sense.

We use to allow such discussions here in the OT section, but it kept up on the slippery-slope. After a good length of time, it was decided by Frontier, not the mods, to forbid such discussions globally on our forums. :p

The other 50% of me wants to make a semi-private section on the forums for such discussions, but that'll be shot down with the quickness. ;)

Oh it would descend into all out war at times I'm sure and of course it's unacceptable to let any section get like that because of the spillover on a number of levels. There are a lot of smart people posting here and their opinions on politics and current events would no doubt be interesting and thought provoking. Quite a few threads get shut down early IMO when they stray towards areas of discussion the forum doesn't allow which is a shame when things are being discussed respectfully but get why it's like that and am not actually complaining. It's difficult to achieve a balance for everyone and this is a PEGI 7 video game forum after all. There are plenty of other places to discuss these things although sadly not all the visitors will like spaceships.

And that is kind of the point - The forum being what it is, although we should be allowed to discuss various things of interest, of course, we shouldn't really stray too far away from spaceships (or dinosaurs).
Imagine if you opened a forum about your product or your hobby. You would attract other people with the similar interests and of course they would also want to talk about different things, but you can only let it go so far before it stops being a forum about your product/hobby and starts being a forum about literally everything else. :D

Hmm I remember a very different series of events that led upto the ban on politics and who it was that caused most the issues...the mods themselves. I could even name them but I doubt that would be appreciated. Things were said, then the comments themselves deleted and the only ones who can delete comments are...not appreciated verm cos thats not the official version of events.

Thats the sole reason I wanted to block only specific mods...course they covered each others backs and I got a 3 month forum ban. I think that was the beginning of the end fer me...I dont view the mods in the same way others do and because of that...well when ye stand upto mods it never ends well...so silence is the next best option.

I trust most the mods...but a few of them not so much...no point complaining because what was said has long ago been deleted and buried and honestly, I just dont care enough anymore anyway. Im only hanging on to see if they fix the game in Q4 and if not then they can ban me fer life fer all I care cos that would be the final curtain on this game fer me. Ye can all enjoy yer echo chamber ye spent so much effort in creating ^
