General / Off-Topic Is this Nibiru?

Check out this interesting article about a star that came REALLY close to our sun ~70,000 years ago.

Now here is what interests me about this. SUPPOSEDLY a guy translated some ancient Sumerian texts that state that a planet or star named Nibiru did just this around 52000+ years ago, leading to all kinds of bad things happening on the earth, the formation of oceans (supposedly earth didn't have a lot of water and it came about due to a "planetary" impact). It is also supposed to happen again! It comes back every 52000 years or so according to the translation.

Conventional historians have poo-poo'ed this translation and said he has it all wrong, and astronomers said there is no evidence of such a thing...
...and then this.
I find things like this very interesting on the strange meter. Hope you enjoy the reads...

Ya, I thought it was funny, and I am not at tinfoil stage yet. I don't think the article said anything about the star colliding. It said it passed close to us on a relative scale.
I think the object lesson for me is that people, many present company included, act like they know what happened 50,000 years ago. We don't know everything that happened 500 years ago. Therefore as a scientist one must always keep an open mind.

The idea was first put forward in 1995 by Nancy Lieder,[4][5] founder of the website ZetaTalk. Lieder describes herself as a contactee with the ability to receive messages from extraterrestrials from the Zeta Reticuli star system through an implant in her brain. She states that she was chosen to warn mankind that the object would sweep through the inner Solar System in May 2003 (though that date was later postponed)

I think the difference is: Sitchen postulated a theory, which has been thoughly debunked. Leider, who is totally bonkers.

Yeeeaaaah... good luck with that. Need some tinfoil?

Wonder if she ever read VALIS or Radio Free Albemuth by Philip K ? He got his religous experience from a Beam of Pink light that was reflected off a Fish pendant that was around a Ladys neck. The Pink Light came from a Satellite Orbiting Earth, called VALIS, which was sent from Albemuth. However he didn't make any predictions about the future, however, his dystopian books resonate with what society is like today, from a certain point of view. :D
