General / Off-Topic Is ubisoft going to beat elite and star citizen

Impressive tech demo. I thought it was just a handplaced static scene, until the dev started zooming out. And I really liked that instant terrain altering.

With a great story to boot this could be a 'must have' [yesnod]

Rainbow Six Siege is pretty decent.
Not played with it, but Tom Clancy's rainbow six is just another milking cow, with 19 games. 1 game / year. Way too much to take seriously. They are watering down to make more money from it.

Watch Dogs 2 ?

haven't played with it either My machine needs a serious upgrade, if i want to play with anything recent.

Before anyone asks? 8 years old Intel core quad, lga 775 2.66 GHZ with 4 GB ram.
The newest part is a Ge force titanium 750. but even that is 2 years old.

I dont think Ubisoft is going to Compete here at all.
The Game is an entirely different Genre.

Currently even Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous are not exactly Competing with each other.
As Star Citizen is doing an Full MMORPG in Space while Elite Dangerous is pretty much a Space Sim with some RPG Elements and Multiplayer Capability.

Star Citizen goes for an Full MMORPG with your Character being what you Control. And your Character again has the ability to Control other things including Spaceships, Ground Vehicles etc.
Elite Dangerous is an Space Sim where you Control your Ship. And maybe some smaller Vehicles as Ship Assets as well as maybe later your Character in a limited manner.
-
Star Citizen is Full Mass Multiplayer and all in the same World without Instancing.
Elite Dangerous goes for mostly Single Player with Limited Multiplayer in heavy Instancing and with very Limited Interaction between Players.
-
Star Citizen is going for Heavy RPG and Cinematic Supported Missions with NPC Interaction and Scripted Events.
Elite Dangerous is going Minimalistic Generic Missions and Community Events instead.
.
Star Citizen is using highly Different and Unique Ships and Weapon Setups with Ships working very differently from each other and Weapons being very different from each other.
Elite Dangerous however is Prioritizing Balancing. Thus keeping all Ships working the same Way as all Ships are Essentially Fighters with Frontal Weapons highly limiting differences between Fighting Styles.
.
Star Citizen is heavily Emphasizing Graphics and Detail Work. Rather having around 100 Star Systems which they slowly flesh out and which have very Unique and very Detailed.
While Elite Dangerous is heavily Emphasizing Size and Numbers. Having an Incredible Galaxy of Billions of Star Systems which are very Generic however.
.
Star Citizen is attempting to get Detailed and Damage Model heavy Combat with alot of Graphics and Effects.
While Elite Dangerous is for most part putting Emphasis onto Physics and reactions but keeping the actual Combat very Arcade with Hit Points for Shields and Hull.

Star Citizen is going with the every Player Occupies his Place in the World setting. So you actually move to a Ship when Multi Crewing. You actually Run around at an Station and walk to your Ship etc etc.
You act entirely Independent from your Ship and might leave it behind or even not have one at all.
Elite Dangerous however is going with the you are your Ship setting. You might leave your Ship as an Tele presence and maybe later as some sort of Spawned Character. But you are Primarily your Ship. Everything is your Ship. You are in effect never really leaving your Ship. Not for Multi Crew and not for anything else. Everything is bound to your Ship.

Comparing Star Citizen to Elite Dangerous is a bit like comparing World of Warcraft to Ultima Online.
They are entirely different beings which only share a similar backround but beyond that little to nothing.

I'm astounded you describe this stuff as if any of it is actually there!

Well. Quite a bit actually is.
Unlike some Haters which for 2 Years have been here trash Talking the Game after having spend 5 minutes in it 2 years ago.
I am actually checking how it looks now and then.
Maybe instead of constantly hating on it you should maybe now and then actually take a look into the Game and see how its progressing and getting bigger.

The Timetable is still ridiculous of course. It will be 2018-2019 before this Game will be ready for an Release and even then it wont be Finished.
Anyone with a Brain and a minimal Knowledge of Programming and Development can tell that because the amount of Mechanics and Features cant possibly be done within the Timeframe they set back then.

But anyone with such a Brain and a minimal Knowledge of Programming can also tell just how big steps they are making forward.

I know by now tough.
Arguing with the Haters and the Buthurt People which back then really believed it would Release with the Original Release Date given in the Kickstarter when the Game was but a Shadow of the Features. Is a waste of time.
They have no idea how such stuff works and also refuse to look at it anyways. So nvm me there.

Watch Dogs 2 ?

I really liked the Silent Hunter Games as well :)

R6 Siege is actually the only really good game Ubi have made in years. As a competitive online shooter right now it is second to none. I won't take CS into account, this game is so hopelessly outdated and primitive that I'm just laughing at a thought of somebody taking it seriously.
Only problem of R6 is the usual Ubi stuff - really bad servers. And some wonky network code.

Comparing the OP's video with Star Citizen is actually more fair than comparing it with Elite. Both are just tech demos at the moment. With Elite I am actually going to jump into the game at the moment to enjoy myself.

It is good to see that games are going to look great in the future, and I'm also hoping that the competition will get Frontier working a little harder as well <grin>

The end of June is rapidly approaching, so update 3.0 of Star Citizen will drop within a week. You must be very excited.

Not that Excited to be Honest. I dont follow this to begin with.
I am Originally an Technician for Automatic Electronics. So I was trained for Programming of Machines, Sensors etc. (Which really is very different from Games especially because your Machine has to do things based on Reality which means you spare yourself the tons of work of having an Engine etc. But also means that you cant adjust things in the engine nor can say oh hey just have this part Ignore Physics here *gg*)
But I have worked a bit in Game Development as well and I myself really loved to Mod Games back then.

But even with my very humble and limited Experience as someone who is allowed to call himself capable of programming software. Which is really not deserved because the Difference between an Programmer and what I can do is vast ^^

I can tell you. Star Citizen. With the amount of Programming and other Work they have to do.
Will not be Out before 2018-2019 and even then it will not really be Finished but more like Open Beta Status where the Main Game actually Works and where still alot of Content will be missing.

So I of course am always happy to see when they make Progress especially when its Bigger Steps like 3.0 (Which I somehow have a feeling will come delayed as usual ^^)
But I dont expect the Game to become anything that can be called an actual Game until end of next year or maybe even middle of the year after that ;)

Their CEO is a Dreamer. A guy who makes an very basic Mistake of Newcomer Developers and try to cram tooooooo damn much into an already far toooooo tight timeframe and thanks to that ended up failing big time.
Back when SC started blowing out of all Proportions of the Kickstarter Project. He had two Choices.

1. Cut all the Extra Content out of the Initial Release and just Finish the Originally Announced Base Game to then afterwards Develop it as an Running Project while the Game is already out.
2. Massively Delay the Release to actually get the Timeframe Required for the Insanely Massive amount of Content and Mechanics he promised.

He did neither and just tried to force it. Which could only go wrong :p

But despite all that I dislike it what all the Haters are doing.
Which very often have not checked the game for years. Some have never even seen the game themselves outside of Videos.
But keep Trashtalking on the Game and talk about how bad it is.

as for Comparing the Games.
Well as I said.
They are Essentially pretty different Genres.
And yes I agree the Ubisoft Game is likely a much better Comparisson on SC.
Because their Genres are at least way closer together :)
