Comparing the OP's video with Star Citizen is actually more fair than comparing it with Elite. Both are just tech demos at the moment. With Elite I am actually going to jump into the game at the moment to enjoy myself.
It is good to see that games are going to look great in the future, and I'm also hoping that the competition will get Frontier working a little harder as well <grin>
The end of June is rapidly approaching, so update 3.0 of Star Citizen will drop within a week. You must be very excited.
Not that Excited to be Honest. I dont follow this to begin with.
I am Originally an Technician for Automatic Electronics. So I was trained for Programming of Machines, Sensors etc. (Which really is very different from Games especially because your Machine has to do things based on Reality which means you spare yourself the tons of work of having an Engine etc. But also means that you cant adjust things in the engine nor can say oh hey just have this part Ignore Physics here *gg*)
But I have worked a bit in Game Development as well and I myself really loved to Mod Games back then.
But even with my very humble and limited Experience as someone who is allowed to call himself capable of programming software. Which is really not deserved because the Difference between an Programmer and what I can do is vast ^^
I can tell you. Star Citizen. With the amount of Programming and other Work they have to do.
Will not be Out before 2018-2019 and even then it will not really be Finished but more like Open Beta Status where the Main Game actually Works and where still alot of Content will be missing.
So I of course am always happy to see when they make Progress especially when its Bigger Steps like 3.0 (Which I somehow have a feeling will come delayed as usual ^^)
But I dont expect the Game to become anything that can be called an actual Game until end of next year or maybe even middle of the year after that
Their CEO is a Dreamer. A guy who makes an very basic Mistake of Newcomer Developers and try to cram tooooooo damn much into an already far toooooo tight timeframe and thanks to that ended up failing big time.
Back when SC started blowing out of all Proportions of the Kickstarter Project. He had two Choices.
1. Cut all the Extra Content out of the Initial Release and just Finish the Originally Announced Base Game to then afterwards Develop it as an Running Project while the Game is already out.
2. Massively Delay the Release to actually get the Timeframe Required for the Insanely Massive amount of Content and Mechanics he promised.
He did neither and just tried to force it. Which could only go wrong
But despite all that I dislike it what all the Haters are doing.
Which very often have not checked the game for years. Some have never even seen the game themselves outside of Videos.
But keep Trashtalking on the Game and talk about how bad it is.
as for Comparing the Games.
Well as I said.
They are Essentially pretty different Genres.
And yes I agree the Ubisoft Game is likely a much better Comparisson on SC.
Because their Genres are at least way closer together
