Pretty much as the title suggests, there are gaurdian options i.e Gauss cannon and plasma thingy, but AX? nada...

Small AX weapons may not carry enough punch?

I have two large turreted AX cannons on my Krait Phantom, and they do the job well enough on Scouts, in combination with a couple of Rail Guns, but I'm not sure Small weapons, even Medium, would be sufficient to do much damage?
 
Isn't it time we had gimballed AX weapons?
Isn't it time we could use more than 4 AX weapons?

Or at least allow for more then 4 when using a Guardian PD. Idk if it's stock performance is good enough to run more then 4 so it could get a small buff when using it with AX/Guardian weapons. Seems "lore friendly" to me.

medium are fine for scouts, even with just two turreted ones its like melting butter with a hot knife, i wouldnt expect to take out a basilisk with two small AX weapons as Small will always deal crap less damage than their larger (much more favoured and unbalanced) counterparts, but at least give us the choice and vs scouts could be an option.

i.e. The small Gauss is quite effective if your good with fixed, but vs scouts is very difficult due to their speed and small surface area / lack of modules to "target" for that... erm ... gimballed sniping buggy thing... ay what now? shhhh..

Fixed deal more damage but time on target with turrets is huge especially if you fall into the jousting match with the scouts or any thargoid for that matter (the flower ships are jousting masters), if you do get bored of jousting you can always reverski and plant 99.9% of your fixed shots straight into them, but it almost feels like you have to cheat and reverse to dish some damage out and/or kite backwards to kill the interceptor thingys with flak (its not "combat" its a dance routine with a set pattern to win quick vs flower ships)

AX aside - the same half baked launches couldn't be bothered to give us Small seismic charges, Small plasma Accelerators etc. and they have a cheek to say blaze your own trail & infinite freedom? i smell defecation of the horse variety, heaps of it :poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop:

We'll probably have to unlock Guardian augmented sensors first (when they get added to the game) for some in game fluff reason so out gimballed weapons will be able to lock on. We also need the AX scanner to have longer range, getting that close to a Thargoid interceptor so we can lock onto the hearts is annoying in an AX conflict zone.
 
On the OP: Yes, small versions of the weapons would be nice to have. They might not be essential for many AX needs, but there are some ships which would benefit a lot.

On gimballed: their turrets basically do that job. They don't work like regular turrets, anyway.
And on more than 4: while the number seems arbitrary, i actually see it positively for several reasons. The most important two are:
  • Most ships have 4 hardpoints. This means that most ships can do AX duty, without falling prey to other ships having more AX weapons.
  • For Xeno content FD has a guideline on how much firepower players can bring and balance accordingly.
(And i have to figure out how lists work on the new forum... )

Who cares about the AX weapons? 🤦‍♂️ Just get small and medium gauss, they work great on all ships, from Sidewinder to Cutter.

Edit: so to be more clear, I’d agree with an idea of utilizing every AX weapon (inc Guardian) in some unique way, that would make fights more interesting and different, since currently all kinds of Interceptor fights are the same.

But making weapons more powerful and killing things easier should not be the way. Scouts are already pretty easy to kill even for a noob (I’ve been there), and they are considered elite ranked. Interceptors are basically the endgame PVE bosses, they shouldn’t be easy, just need to be possible to kill.

Why? You have boring RES and CZ where you can exterminate endless row of NPCs with your engineered ship and gimballed weapons. Why do you want to turn AX combat into the same boring activity? There is only one PvE activity which requires some skill and you want it dead. LOL
