It is normal in MMO's to have cooldowns to change instances/servers

I still don't get it why changing game modes (open to solo to group) in ED doesn't have a cooldown since it would solve EVERY exploit so far.

Every mmo I played if you change instance you have at least 15 min cooldown before being able to change again.

Keep not doings the obvious fixing your game needs FD you doing great! /s

True. Had to switch to solo a lot these days, because all pads were blocked at several engineers' bases, which isn't surprising after a major engineering update.

then you would change to solo, what is the problem there? You just couldn't come back to open in the next 15 min.

I think the point being made is that a lot would just not bother going to open, and play solo.. which would threaten the MMO title.

Perhaps you should apologise for being rude.

If that is indeed a real problem, FD should had implemented a queue for docking long time ago.

I think it would be better if they could save your state (at least as far as missions are concerned).
So regardless of which mode you popped into, you'd get the same current set of missions.

It seems there are technical limitations that block that.

That's true, fuub. But most other MMOs don't have flawed designs that actually force the players to switch instances. RNGsus wants us to switch modes. Obey.

Technical limitations were meant to be overcome! :p

How about this idea: The mission generation seed is based off your cmdr id + the date & hour of the day.
This way regardless of mode, your mission list at a given station would be static and changed only when the seed changed on an hourly basis.

Of course I'm assuming the mission generation is procedural, and not simply randomized.
I'm also assuming I know anything about their code (which I don't).
But as an armchair developer, I'm allowed to throw wild ideas out there, regardless of feasibility. :)

Take WoW, every dungeon is an instance. Imagine how annoying it would be if you were to use group finder, do your dungeon, then have to wait 15 minutes before you could port out?

Or... do a personal quest where you're instance phased, and have to wait 15 minutes before you could 'end' that mission?

The ultimate solution is to unify the mission boards which would render any form of mode change irrelevant.

Sorry EDIT: and increase payouts by about 3 times.

Board flipping was not a necessity for this skimmer thing... The missions board had between 10 and 25 missions for all factions in the system, all of which were offering skimmer kill missions at the same two places (completion was interchangeable at both locations).

Which doesn't sound like anyone was cheating anything :)

I'm not getting your examples, in both the 15 min would have passed while doing the dungeons and mission, and you wouldn't have to wait at all..
