It Was Only a Dream

I'm heading out to Outer Scutum Centaurus arm, random exploration, cleaning up old bookmarks. No specific destination. I see on the DSSA Google doc that there is a FC out there, and figure i would pop in to repair the hull and spruce up the modules.
About 30 jumps away, I bounce into a planet's exclusion zone (Zzzquil and space ships don't mix), and bruise the modules. No problem, I was heading to the shop anyways, right?
Nope. I get to the system, and no FC. I go to edsm and edastro and discover the FC never deployed. (Seems silly to me to include it on a spreadsheet, but that's me. The same guy that tranqs himself while flying spaceships.)
Then it came to me, that it's better this way. Better to fly without the safety net.
Feels like the difference between being an explorer versus being a tourist.

Always take AFMUs and repair limpets if you're travelling far. That just seems obvious and sensible to me. Unless you're using the internal space for something else, but I can't imagine what you might be carrying that you can't fit those 3 modules to keep yourself alive on a journey that long.

Yeah, I have the afmu. I might have repair limpets, not sure whether I've put them on the asp or the phantom.

While I was out there, I also noticed discrepancies between edastro DSSA carrier data and EDSM map with DSSA carriers. In the end I also cross-checked by searching for stations in EDDB with carriers enabled. The few times I actually used the DSSA carrier, I also found it that way. Even though EDDB may also list "passing" carriers that long hopped away.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use the in-game tool to see if there's a fleet carrier in a system, or is there a limit on how far away you can be for them to show up in the map?

I'm on Xbox, and the last time I tried that, they didn't show up.
Solid tip, I should try again.
