It's quiet... too quiet

Speaking of which, I am very, very surprised that no one, of any power, has decided to drop a nuclear weapon on that thing...yet.
Azimuth must've been behind it going "We want to run proprietary research on this if we find a safe way to get down there, please don't blow it up".

It's not as if they care for the humanitarian aspect of things...

However if you drop it and it falls right in the middle of that thing something is going to get vaporized.
I highly suspect that a nuke would be if not vaporized, at least damaged enough to not be working by whatever the Hell is swirling around in there long before a direct hit. Nukes are quite fragile, slight damage to the implosion device means it'll fizzle at best.

Better to use a relativistic kill vehicle--won't matter if it gets mangled or even mostly vaporized, a few dozen kg hunk of tungsten at even just .1C is going to really hurt whatever it hits, nevermind if you get it up to .9C or more😉

On the note of the OP, the title reminds me that the aftermath of Titans, to me, doesn't feel particularly victorious. It felt that way at Taranis for me, and again now with Cocijo. When it goes, you're just left with... silence, and the only ambient tune/music which remains is this eerie, slow, looping soundtrack, none of the other pieces which play during the meltdown. You would expect something uplifting if you're supposed to feel good about the 'great' victory, but instead it just created this uneasy sensation as you sit there watching the remains glow as they slowly cool off and the vaporized caustic remains dissipate.

The difference here is of course that with Cocijo we're not left wondering exactly what we'll find inside when it becomes safe to access - or, at least, not as much - but what will happen next. We all know the Thargoids are not going to be discouraged so easily, and even more so with the information they uncovered...

Whatever's happening, it'll start tonight with the Wed roll over.
I'm more thinking "Sol Titan state is removed to begin recovery efforts" is what they're gonna do with it, but at the same time...

If we get a "Sol has fallen" article very suddenly, I won't be surprised either. (They have allowed Mars High to continue offering evacuations despite cutting off the Thargoid assault on it, after all.) And there might be some other stuff for us to poke into that's not necessarily combat related.

... and of course you can get it up to 0.9c in the first place using Project Orion, if you do have those nukes lying around ...

Anyway, ya can't beat what happened with the Lensman - they fired a whole anti-matter planet at a planet.

Yeah, it's bitterly somber after the boom. I actually like it this way--no bombastic fanfares or elated radio comms from AX NPC-s, just this almost sad ambivalent feeling.
For some reason, nuclear weapons are not a "thing" in Elite.

They are in RL.
IIRC in lore they went "never again" after the all-out nuclear annihilation of WWIII and completely banned nukes.

Nukes are kind of rubbish in space, anyway, unless we're talking about Casaba howitzers or nuclear bomb pumped X-ray lasers, and 34th century planetary missile defence systems are probably able to shoot down 99,999% of MIRV-s, judging from how effective the small cheap point defence turrets on ships are.

Oh, in Traveller meson guns, and deadfall ordinance (rocks) took over surface strike roles.

It's just that they are soooo iconic.

I'm hoping we'll get a 'rebuilding' community goal to keep the momentum up over the next week or two, and bring a bit of cheer (especially for the traders who are kinda left out of the AX stuff). At the moment there are systems in 'Recovery' state, so players who know about the systems can participate in that, but it's a bit piece-meal, and not a lot of chat about it in the 'Next System' thread. Probably because we don't know if FDev will just erase that status tomorrow, remove the Thargoid UI stuff from the Galaxy Map, and declare it over.

It actually seems like some might still be around - see the Lucifer device plotline which apparently was hatched out some seven-ish years ago, before I even knew this game existed. I was told about it when I had that same question of whether nukes exist in Elite currently (but it's likely they have been phased out in favor of mass driver cannons - aka railguns - on sufficiently large ships).

... in some 11-12 hours we might find out if we get a break of our flowery space neighbors or not. I'd also like that Titan salvage CG pretty please, preferably before the Feds decide to start monopolizing the Cocijo wreckage and permit lock Sol again.

Thinking of that, maybe it's another reason why it's not such a good thing to have the Titan wreck orbiting (or supposedly orbiting) Earth.

Fighting a Titan and then seeing it explode reminded me of Shadow of the Colossus every single time.

Yeah I'm sure they will start out with a Starport recovery initiative and some Titan salvage.
I'm all about salvage, so I'll probably lurk around and see what happens.
