It's Titan Time again!

No chance for me to attend. Sadly, because this ship kit:

😢
Well... Another loss for me.
It is a nice looking kit and paintjob but as it is for killing five Titans it isn’t one I will be able to get having not been in on any of the previous four. So the best I could get would be whatever they released last time.

Just finished several runs and had no problems. Everything worked as expected. Not sure if that is because I went early. Usually I end up not getting time till the last heart when it's total chaos.

I've made 2 sorties in solo, no issues with the game at all.

First attack run was a mess as it was a while ago. Then I did 2 runs, each for 4.5mil or so. The second sortie was also 2 runs, the first 5 vents and about 6.5mil, the second run also 5 vents but I was too late at the pineapple and only managed around 4.5mil. Still also 200 ARX extra so far :)

Ah, so that's why.
Thanks for easing my mind. :D

Got 11 millions in bonds despite all the effort by the universe to deny me that🙃 The game ran fine, no glitches or bugs at Indra in solo. That part was completely smooth sailing.

But turning on my PC I discovered that Windows installation somehow got borked beyond all recognition, probably the aftermath of a few crashes I had experienced earlier. The basic command line tools like sfc and chkdsk couldn't run even in safe mode or fix anything when they did run in recovery environment, hell I couldn't even open Powershell (cmd prompt worked) and the startup repair/recovery/reset tools couldn't fix anything and stopped even working after a few tries. Finally restored a last known good full disk backup from monday and was able to boot (and get the combat bonds for the swag😛), but analog outputs from my sound card aren't working and enabling XMP in BIOS results in Windows bluescreening at startup. Both might probably be due to the BIOS update I did on tuesday.

I have a looong weekend ahead troubleshooting, rolling back BIOS, probably restoring the disk from backups a few times...

And moral of the story: always, always have a backup solution that allows you to schedule regular full disk image backups (I use UrBackup). Much easier and faster than reinstalling the OS and all the programs from scratch; much more reliable than built-in Windows repair/recovery tools. And never trust a beta BIOS update even if it's been the latest available for a year. Especially if the beta has been the latest update for a year—at this point the mfg has probably completely abandoned the mobo and won't fix any bugs/security issues.

You think this kind of experience is normal?

Something is really really wrong with your system Sir.

Open is hopeless imho. I went there twice, on both occasions all the vents were blue and stayed that way indefinitely. In solo in it's weakened state it only took two goes on the exposed course with a single AX multi-cannon (taking it down to 95% after torpedoing 6 vents each time) to get well in excess of the required 2 million.

I think my experiences last night were likely the least buggy a Titan instance has been in a while. It still wasn't great though.

It does look like they've nerfed the damage from the Torus effect, I assume as a band-aid for it sometimes extending beyond the asteroid field. Last Titan, I speculated whether it was a deliberate change forcing the player to hide in the "safe zone" of the Torus effect near the poles. However, as many other didn't experience the Torus effect extending beyond the asteroids, it is indeed a bug it seems.

So, Torus extending beyond the asteroid is still there, but the damage from it is much lessened. Vents not opening was new to me, Pineapple not taking damage was also new. It took three attack runs to get what I'd previously managed in just ONE attack run, despite multiple issues with those instances too.

This Thargoid stuff does compel me to play, but it never really goes smoothly. I will definitely select Solo next time (if I remember lol) and see if it's any better. Dunno what my game is doing in an empty (except me) Private Group though that might cause more issues.

Yeah, no:poop:, Sherlock😀 Not the first time, nor the last time I've had to dig deep into command line tools, rescue disks, BIOS reflashing and thorough testing of every BIOS setting available to make a system bootable and stable.

To be honest, this particular mobo model (MSI B450 Tomahawk non-Max version) has always been hacky with Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series (but has good VRM-s, which is the reason I got it in the first place). It doesn't have enough ROM storage capacity for modern AGESA versions together with all the other shiny BIOS bells and whistles so MSI had to do some compromizes, mostly in UI. The Max version that fixed the ROM issue was released a week or two after the Ryzen 3000 launch, and as I bought my current PC literally on day 1 I had to do with the old 450 version. Also, AMD completely botched the release of B550 chipset by delaying it until the EOL of 3000 series, leaving budget systems with the old B450 and no PCIe 4 (X570 mobos being 250+€ at launch, making them ridiculous for 200€ 3600 and 150€ 3500 CPU-s). To add insult to injury, they also cut entry-level GPU-s down to 8x and 4x lanes, crippling their performance in budget and older systems.

Have you considered just getting a new mobo if that model is so troublesome? I don't think I could handle a PC that had inherent issues like that. I had a spare 3900X from my main gaming PC - replaced it with a 5800X3d, damn fine gaming CPU - and I was able to pick up various parts really quite cheaply. A B550 mobo, RAM and a pair of M.2's, and build myself a nice "Workhorse" PC for everything non-gaming. Of course, you likely just need the Mobo.

I got the ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING for this second PC, my gamer having the ROG STRIX X570-F Gaming, and it was remarkably cheap at the time. It's a little lacking in PCIe lanes, but it has enough. I popped 32GB DDR4 3600 in there, got two cheaper 2TB M.2 Drives, classed as PCIe 4.0 but actually only PCIe 3.0 speeds, and used my old GTX 1070 GPU and it's not a terrible gamer in its own right - don't use it for that, but of course tested it out :)

Back on topic, I've been busy, how're all things Titan? No surprises after today's update? Hope the game still remembers my efforts to earn those qualifying bonds!
